We all believe you have helped guide us to a richer understanding of life. Even though we have stumbled at times you have been willing to stand beside us and guide us onward to success. To show our appreciation for your sincere help, we the class of 1958 dedicate this Dragon to you, Mr. Millard McCune, as a small token to remain with you for many years. . I n 15751 ADMINI RA TION LOWELL S. HUNTINGTON, Principal VINCENT CILIBERTI, Vice Principal ANDREW S. DRAPER CENTRAL SCHOOL Lowsu. S. HUNTINGTON. PRINCIPAL SCHENEVUS. NEW YORK February 12, 1958 To the Graduating Class of 1958. Two of the goals of secondary education are: fly To prepare students for college Q2j To prepare pupils to take jobs and take their places in society. To succeed in either of these goals people must mature and learn to accept responsi bility. Specifically they must learn to be on time, stand on their own two feet, set themselves a task and carry it through to success. When they leave high school, they will be expected to assume the responsibilities of making good in college or in making good in a job. The graduating class of 1958, on the whole, seems to us to be one in which the school can take pride. They have grown and matured and we think they are ready to accept these responsibilities. The best wishes of the administration and staff of the Andrew S. Draper Central School go with you. Lowell S. Draper Central was no different - it too had a first kindergarten composed of 14 members of the class of 1958. First row: S. Enck, E. Strong, M. Schutt, F. Judkins, D. Hotaling, J. Palmer, C. Muehl, M. Webster, P. Mathewson, E. Cohn, W. Gardner, V. Umbach. Second row: G. Pape, M. Schmiedel, M. Tessitore, B. Ross, L. Unkless, K. DeSena, D. Cortese, J. Bender, B. Burdick, D. Micke1E. Houghton, L. Dunham. To these 14 were added 24 who entered their Freshman year in September 1954, under the direction of Mr. John Wilson. During the year we were very successful, sponsoring two dances, a game party, and a one-act play in the Jamboree. Our class officers were: Presi- dent - Charles Muehl, Vice President - Edward Strong, Secretary - Alice Way, Treasurer - John Nash. Although we had an excellent year learning 5145. 31p, we were sorry to lose Lois Bishop, Evelyn Franqui, and Jack Haynes. After a long summer vacation, we were glad to return - this time as Sophomores. Looking around the room, we found many new faces - Frances Egnor, Anthony Gambino, and David Collins. We also learned that Mr. Wilson was no longer with us, instead we were under the guidance of Miss Anne Tobey. Upon further inspection we discovered summer casualties to be Donald Houghton, and Penny Easley. To start the year we elected our officers as follows: President - David Morris, Vice President - Edward Strong, Secretary - Alice Way, Treas- urer - John Nash. During the year Emily Franzen decided to become a resident of Albany. In order to build up our treasury we sponsored two dances, a game party, skating party, bake sale, one-act play in the Jamboree, and a very successful Ham Supper - Which built our treasury up to 25310. 21. When we returned in our Junior year we were sorry to find that we had lost Frances Egnor, and Anthony Gambino - now our class consisted of 18 boys and 14 girls. Our class officers were as follows: President - John Nash, Vice President - Edward Strong, Secretary - Margaret cont. on page 32 NAME James Bender Judith Staruck RoseMarie Butler Elanor Cohn David Collins Sherwood Enck Florence Foster George Gamble Norma Graves Thomas Hynes Peter Mathewson Charles Muehl David Morris Walter Palmer Gretel Pape Stanley Roseboom Betty Jane Ross Mary Schmiedel Margaret Schutt Lynn Smith Paul Smith Joseph Staruck Edward Strong Margaret Tessitore Linda Unckless Dierk VanCleef Glenda Vroman Marshall Webster NICKNAME Ben windy.. That year we sponsored a Ham Supper, dance, Jamboree, three-act play, They Gave Him a Co-ed, game party, and Senior Prom. The class sold cards and magazines and received the soda concession - bringing our treasury up to 3746. 80. New Hartford claimed Alice Way and William Peeters left to get a job. The long awaited day came on September 3, 1957 --yes, you've guessed it! The kindergarteners are now seniors. The first week of school was spent in busy conversation about our summer vacation. This week also served as an introduction to Mr. Frank Di Noto who was destined to become our third class advisor. At roll call we missed our president of last year John Nash, and Louise Dunham was transferred to Kingston. At the first meeting we elected the following class officers: President - David Morris, Vice President and Corresponding Secretary - Margaret Tessitore, Secretary - Norma Graves, Treasurer - Sherwood Enck. The seniors are eagerly awaiting their trip to Washington. To make these dreams come true we must have 851500. 00 in our treasury. To raise this money we have sponsored a Ham Supper, Yearbook and a dance. We have also sold magazines, cards, and Fruitcakes. In order to reach our goal, we are planning other activities such as a Jamboree, Dairylea Dinner, Penny Carnival, bake sale, and game party. We will close our high school education with Class Day Exercises June 19, and Grad- uation June 20. After graduation we will travel various roads, but whatever path we travel we will always remember the trials and triumphs of the years at Draper. In part- ing we wish to thank all the teachers who have helped us with patience and care to master social and educational development. Gretel Pape Class Historian rv u 'W in ld: l'!e 112 Ulla, Q. URGA NIZA TIONS The Student Council of Draper Central School was founded to build better relations between the faculty and students. It has also shown many of us in the council and out how governments are run. I believe the council has served a useful purpose in the past, now, and will in the future. This year, schools in the Otsego, Delaware, and Scoharie county areas have formed the district eight section of New York State Organization. We have been able to dis- cuss school problems with other groups through the New York State council. Seated: S. Flood, N. Green, D. Van Cleef, R. Ross, T. Banner. Standing: R. Webster M. Empie, J. I would like to dis- cuss some of these. A yearbook has many memories for almost all of us. You are able to look back and remember many of the events that have taken place. Your book has more value as the years pass by. The yearbook is helpful to the staff that works on it. The staff learns how to put a book together in the proper order. Staffers practice many of the skills that they have learned in school. One of these is typing. All of the writing that is in the book is typed on the original. I would like to thank everyone who has helped in making this book a success. Among these are: the year- book staff, advertisers, and subscribers. I hope everyone enjoys the Dragon for 1958.
