The school prospered and I9I3 arrived wiTh a pupil regisTraTion oT 320. The voTers were again called TogeTher and The presenT building was sTarTed wiTh an eighT-room uniT on The presenT siTe. One Sunday morning in May, I9I4, The neighborhood was aroused by Tire in The old school. The Tire compleTely desTroyed The old sTrucTure. The enTire sTudenT body was TransTerred To The compleTed TirsT uniT oT The presenT building. The period oT The World War caused a rapid developmenT oT The disTricT, when I92O was reached, The voTers again auThorized an addiTion oT eighT rooms and The old audiTorium To accommodaTe The 539 pupils. The High School was esTablished AugusT I7, I92O. and The name Draper High School came inTo exisTence wiTh a TirsT year sTudenT body oT 68 pupils. June. I924, was a red leTTer monTh because The TirsT High School class oT 20 pupils was graduaTed. The crowded condiTions required a special meeTing oT The voTers again in I925. The building was enlarged by adding I4 rooms and The presenT AudiTorium-Gymnasium. Our High School had reached 4-O5 pupils wiTh 8I5 in The grades. This addiTion was crowded by I928 and The voTers relieved The siTuaTion by adding IO more rooms. Tacing Earl STreeT. To accommodaTe The approximaTely I4O0 pupils. The depression did noT slaclcen The growTh oT our school, buT made iT impossible To add more room: ThereTore, The basemenT was uTilized in I93l To care Tor The laboraTories, lcindergarTen. and one sTudy hall. During I932-I933 The T.E.R.A. devel- oped The old audiTorium inTo The presenT shop and domesTic arTs deparTmenT, which helped Temporarily To make room Tor our I8OO pupils. LasT year Tound us perplexed To know how To Tind seaTs Tor approximaTely 2,033 people. The voTers aT The May meeTing appoinTed a commiTTee To invesTigaTe The school condiTions. This commiTTee suggesTed The addiTion of 6 rooms and an AudiTorium. A meeTing of The legal voTers approved The recommendaTion oT The Board oT EducaTion and commiTTee on February 24, I937. Thus. again, a building proposiTion is under way. The STaTe DeparTmenT has informed us ThaT This addiTion is The lasT ThaT can be made To This building. We hope ThaT The school problem will be seTTled Tor The communiTy. whose people have so consisTenTly and loyally solved The problems of educaTion Tor Their children. The building growTh is imporTanT To care Tor The physical needs oT The sTudenT body. buT I believe The moral. spiriTual and educaTional developmenT oT The sTudenTs has Tar exceeded The maTerial expansion. A well-Trained TaculTy, wiTh a group oT happy sTudenTs, TogeTher wiTh a parTnership-ownership school aTTiTucle, develops The aTmos- phere Tor educaTional accomplishmenT. I EARL B. ZIMMER.
