Traditional rival lowa State was moved to the first game on the schedule and pre-game optimists looked for a close contest due to Drake's new offense. Rain damp- ened the contest and stalled Drake's new offense, while the Cyclones ground out a 41-O triumph. D'rake's new uniforms were baptized with mud. Rain continued to hamper the Bulldogs as Central Michigan, a new team on the schedule, turned loose a flotilla of fleet backs and floated to a Al-21 victory. lowa State Teachers College was the next visitor to Drake's mud bowl as they slipped and slid to a ld-6 decision, adding to the rain-soaked, mud-splattered misery of the Bulldogs. Saint Ambrose returned to the Drake schedule for the first time since T943 and provided the heart-break of the year as they scored a touchdown and a two point conversion in the last T3 seconds to nip Drake's victory hopes, 23-22. Travel proved an inspiration as the Drake eleven took to the road for their first visitors' appearance of the year and also their first victory as they made themselves unwelcome before a Bradley crowd.
