Smoke-filled social rooms with greasy remains of popcorn, collections of empty pop containers, and cups of frigid coffee . . . social rooms, headquarters for cram sessions . . . Painstaking toothpaste applications to doorknobs, silent placements of brim- ming buckets against closed doors. . . ah, yes, the dorm . . . Off-campus apartments and rooms, another world of lodging . . . where the overflow seeks a roof, where the isolates and evaders seek solitude . . . off-campus living, where breeds an attitude of independence not always appreciated by university officials . . .
