FOREWORD This is Drake's illustrious Year! Long hoped for honors have been realized. The highest degree of scholastic success, reached with the granting of a charter of Phi Beta Kappa, has given to Drake University the greatest academic honor obtainable. On the athletic field Drake has brilliantly demon- strated her ability. Her football team has the distinction of being the only undefeated one in the Nlissouri Valley Conference. Each year Drake Relays have grown in importance and have now come to be recognized as the biggest athletic carnival in the country. New buildings have become a necessity. The initial steps for meeting the needs of a growing student body, have been taken. The Drake Nlunicipal Observatory, a beautiful monument to science, has been completed. A womenls dormitory is now a certainty and their swimming pool is fast developing into a reality. The old days are gone. An epoc of renewed strength and expansion is here. School spirit and enthusiasm, dulled by the war, have burst forth again with rejuvenated energy. Recognizing that this year is one of paramount im- portance in the history of the university, the 1924 Quax presents this volume as a record of many honors achieved. Vlfith the confidence inspired by past years, we feel that these achievements will continue, and that every year will be an illustrious one for Drake University.
