Junior High Wasketball lzampions 1-HE Doylestown Junior High basketball team, coached by Mr. Sewers, swept through -II- one of the most brilliant seasons ever enjoyed by any junior high team. The boys lost but two games, annexing the league championship, and dropped several small high schools, including New Hope and Buckingham. The games were marked with fine playing, the team stopping the opposition with very little scoring on most occasions, and usually running up a large total themselves. The attack was led by the hiiller brothers, Frank and Ed, who accounted for a large number of points with their fine shooting. On one occasion the Red and Blue performed for the outside rooters at the Armory and handled themselves very well by topping the high school third team. fBoys' Intramural Tasketball ZHE Intramural League Championship was won by Fred Huppls Junior A team, which -If finished the season without a defeat. Bill Sehoenkopf's senior team gave the winners a great battle but lost when the two teams met. The individual star of the league was Ed Ettenger, who led the league in scoring and greatly aided the juniors in winning. The winners were presented with felt emblems by Coach Sewers. This activity, now in its second year, is gaining in popularity, much praise going to hir. Sewers, who devotes his time and interest so that it may function. The Intramural program furnishes recreation for those boys who are not good enough to make the varsity team. 'Tl1eT0RCH 0F1938 72 'Levnard Halderman, Jack Cosner,

The QOH Season SCHEDULE n. ll. ow. Jenkintown .... Syl SDM Jenkintown ...... 6 12 Cheltenham. ........ 8 7 Northeast Catholic.. . . 5 7 Cheltenham. ...... SDM 5M W, Worthington WHE 1937-1938 season marks the beginning of the Doylestown High School Golf Team. -II-which promises to grow into one of the most active sports in the school. For several years, the boys have been attempting to organize a golf team. After the poor showing of the track squad last year, the boys and hir. Wolfe took advantage ol' their opportunities and secured the privilege of using the links at the Country Club for their new sport. Almost all of the matches have been with some of the better main-line high schools, and due to years of practice, many of them were able to defeat Dovlestown. Although the team Won very few matches this year, all the boys will be back and the prospects look much brighter for next year. At the beginning of the season, Walter Worthington was elected captain, and Charles McKinstry was elected manager. For the benefit of those who do not play golf, a brief explanation of how a golf match is carried on is in order. Each team has an equal number of players. These players pair off and carry on a number of separate contests. Three points are divided between each group of two players. The winner of the first nine holes gets one, the winner of the second nine holes gets one, and the other is split between the two players or given to a player who has won all eighteen holes. All the scores are added to make a team score. Left to Right: Mr. Vtiolfei L- Bregan, C. iVlcKinst1'y, R- BI-egan, W. VVOrthington, Captaing R. Johnson, lt. Opdyke, D. Gordon, 11. Lewis, C. Wolfe, head coach and athletic director, -H-aims to promote health of mind and body through physical exercise. There are fifteen members in the club, all of whom find pleasure in the numerous activities conducted every other Thursday during activity period. hfost all of the time is spent in doing mat work in which the boys turn somersaults, flips, and form pyramids: work on parallel bars include shoulder stands, jumping the bars, and standing on head, the horizontal bar takes in chinning, doing turns, and swinging off into a flip. The meetings were always well planned and well attended. The officers in charge were: Chris hliller, president, VVilliam Wrigley, vice-president, and Charles Rufe, secretary. QHE Girls' Apparatus Club, although diminutive in size and number, is one of the most active clubs in the school. The girls have promoted many projects, which have benefited other activities, as well as their own club. Pencils, with the basketball schedule printed on them, were purchased by the club and sold to the student body. This benehted the basketball squad, as well as the Apparatus Club. Pins of different designs, displaying the school colors and personal insignias, were also sold to the student body by the girls. Bliss Kelley, the sponsor of the club, who worked diligently with the girls, incited each one to make some definite contribution in tl1e field of gymnastics.
