At our control was Mr. Penrose, who had a hard time controlling this bunch of fresh- men, but as things settled down and we got our officers chosen Robert Todd took command at the stick, Donna Weber took over as co-pilot, ,len Hyzer took down all the chit-chat that went on, and Sandy llomovich, counted our pascos. During this year we held many successful dances, which kept Sandy busy. As our Sophomore year rolled around we found that we had a new pilot Loma Ives, and a new co-pilot Sandy Homovich to lead and pilot our second stage. We also saw a change in the taking of notes department as Donna Weber made her pen really buzz, and Janice Shields took over as pasio counter. This year brought successful dances and a ham supper that surpassed all suppers. Then our third stage got going Lorna Ives was again at the controls, we saw a new co-pilot, Merle Warfield, and we had the same note taker and pasio counter, Donna Weber and Janice Shields, respectively. This year we added greatly to our Fort Knox as we sold pom-pom shakers, held dances, put on a hilarious play Seventeen ls Awfully Young and had a beautiful and scenic prom 4'Twilight Time. STANDING: Floyd Cicio, Robert Homovich, Brandon Marks, Francis Barnes, James Craig, Dennis Gilmore, George Shaw, Steven Flaherty, Donald By- ington, ,lohn Hathaway, Kenneth Young, Keith Fish, Robert Cable, Walter Murphy, Jack Pardee, Fred MacDonald, Dick Edwards, Coach Slawson. D.C.S. fielded a young, relatively inexperienced team this year, as Keith Fish, a transfer student from East Branch was the only senior. However, the eagles made their presence known to the rest of the league, as we ended the regular season in a first place tie with Andes. This necessitated a play-off game with Andes, which the Mountaineers won by a 5-1 score for the championship. This team scored 49 points while holding the opposition to 18. Largely responsible for the good scoring attack was a front line of Jim Craig, Walt Murphy, Dennis Gil- more, Francis Barnes, and Bob Cable. Defensive standout were Donald Byington as goalie, and Gary Klindt and John Hathaway as fullbacks. These two units were ably supported by a halfback line of Kenny Young, Keith Fish, and George Shaw. Jack Pardee and Kenny Fuller also got into the act frequently. Congratulations, Eagles, for a fine season. Q E z ii .fx Q f' 'iffy I A Q WX. M., inkmxx. N. n N259 S .vw A K fiff .5 K v. Merle Warfield failed to appear in some of the early games because of being ineli- gible. However, Merle came up with the uGem77 of the season as he pitched a no-hitter against Margaretville. This was one of the best games seen in Downsville in quite some time. as D.C.S. only garnered one run and that was in the last of the 7th. Merle did most of the pitching, with Jim Craig pitching a few games. Bruce Bryden hit for the best average and did the catching. The power hits were furnish- ed by Don Byington and Stan Davis. Most of the team will be back another year, so we are hoping to make a little more noise next year.
