Here we are with another big record of the year. I guarantee this platter will be one of the tops in pops. The title? That Old Gang of Oursf, Done by none other than that Real Gone class of ,57. Before we spin it, let me say that it's the history behind that record breaking group, told by their disc jockey, Thomas Flannery. Ready? Spin it, man! Hi, cats! This is Mr. Flannery with the low down behind the history of that popular gang, the class of '57, Let's scat back to 1953 when they began to jive in this business. As freshmen, thirty-two voices blended with Ronnie Tillapapugh conducting and Marley Babcock taking over if he had a solo ap- pearance. Paul johnson kept a record of their dates and Louise Fluhr handled the money. They did a pretty good job that year as for as money went. But, their tunes were few in number. Having decided to retire at the end of four years, they would blow their bankroll at that time on a trip to D.C. So they had a few activities on the side to bring in more of that green stuff. At the end of their first year, several crazy cats got hep about working on their own. So their second year started with me as their disc jockey again. A few songs were released like Two More Years to Gow and School Gets Tedious, Don't it? But nothing sensational. Martha Baldauf was their di- rector with Pat Larsen assisting. Gloria Peck was in charge of scratching down dates while Don Mills hummed the tune, We need you Now as he thumbed through the green stuff. Their sideline activities proved successful. A movie, dog.raffle and the Mardi Gras were parts of their financial backing. Besides doing professional work, some of the boys went amateur with basketball while the girls cheered from the sidelines. The year having dragged by, Don Mills and Floyd Young retired with Mike Finnerty signing up. 'Q- ,. .. .. it .Wa jan f fa 9 f e e 6 J i K I V,.Vfsg,5w-fb -Y X , f 4. -t'- f V 'fxawaai-f-1.2. - ,,. Q . - R filwmw - ' sf' ' H .2 at ff pig QQ? if, Q i K CHATTER With twenty-two strong, 1955-56 proved quite successful. Patty Larsen took over with Marilou Young to help her. Maxine MacDonald had a busy time with dates while the money rolled in to Gloria Peck. Man, their extra activities sure were hep! They threw together a ham supper, sponsored a movie and tried their acting ability on that Ureal gonel' play, Hillbilly Weddin'f' To wrap up the year, they danced the lindy, mambo, jitterbug, foxtrot and what have you at their Stardust themed Prom. Before the year ended, George Walker rocked in with his theme song Make Room For Mef' This gave them a roll call of twenty-three. So with Autumn Leavesu rolling around, their last year started. Pat Larsen again led them with Ronnie Tillapaugh to get hep and help when she needed it. Maxine MacDonald again jotted down their dates while George sang Today You Belong to Us as the money ran through his fingers. They decided to blast the year off by 'icutting up their play Books and Crooks. Man, dig that title! Real Terrif, it was! Then, they ripped up the year with selling Christmas cards, sponsoring a supper and providing refreshments at the 'll-loop games. Before selling stationery, their vocal chords exer- cised a new release, Washington, Here We Come! That was quite a smash! Especially with those cool cats of '57! After that platter, they continued selling paper, pencils and notebooks to newcomers. But, then the news hit them. They heard Love Me Tender and Don't Be Cruelw and knew that Elvis was running them out of business. So, they retired. But after they went to Washington and found that place to be uterrifl' they decided to re- cord one more record. That's the one you're listening to now, rock and rollers, That Old Gang of Ours. I think they're the most! On the basis of games won and lost, the Eagles had a very poor season, as they failed to win a game. On the basis of other merits which can be achieved, perhaps we were somewhat more successful. The boys never ceased to give all they had, and we had more spirit and drive the last game of the season than we did the first, so the season was not a total loss. The other scores indicate that the Eagles were very much in every game they played, but just couldn't seem to get the break they needed. We will lose Ronnie T., George W., Rollie D., Nelson B., Gary H., and Mike F., from this year's team. However, we will have several returnees who saw considerable action this year. Among these will be Bruce Bryden, jim Shaw, Craig Lewis, Don Dibble, Don Byington, jim Craig, Denny Gilmore, Ronnie Barnes, and Gary Dlindt. Before the season was over three of its freshmen regulars moved to the varsity. Don Byington was the first to advance after Christmas vacation and in February he was joined by Sam Davis and jim Craig. The last five games of the season were played with a starting team of which four members will be back another year, so the old familiar cry of wait till next year is heard. Tillie and Bruce were the most consistent scorers for the year, while Don scored well for both j.V. and Varsity. Rollie missed some games due to ineligibility, but along with George played well with the others. Downsville made its entry in the small- er section of the league and found the teams in this section played pretty good basketball too, especially Grand Gorge who won the right to represent us in the sectionals. Downsville ended the season with a 6-4 league record which put us in third place. The record shows that the Eagles came on strong in the last five games, winning three and losing two heart-breakers to Roxbury and Roscoe. So the season ends and the boys hang up their uniforms until another year. Here's hoping the 1957-58 basketball Eagles will have just as much spirit, drive, determination and good sports- manship as this year. Q H E E R Shirley Marilou Jeanette ,Iii 'L H f:xw.....,,m ,, LEADERS at Lorna Sandra Gloria Maxine D.C.S The Downsville Eagles en- joyed a very successful base- ball season ending with a 10-3 record. Downsville lost the last league game at Wal- ton, so these two teams ended up as co-champions in our section of the league. Many of the boys turned in solid performances, but probably the biggest contributing fac- tor to our success was the mound work of Harry Neff and George Walker. These two turned in nine of the ten victories and were steady performers all season. The Eagles had five boys hitting over .300. Of these five, Lonnie Baxter proved to be the most productive hitter, although jack Dalrymple hit for a higher average. Ronnie Tillapaugh, who seems to have a knack of hitting to the opposite field, chipped in with some timely hits, as did Bruce Bryden and Gary War- field. Gary proved to be our best bunter. Rollie Doig and Gibby rounded out the team, and even though they didn't hit for the high average, they made their presence known in the field. The highlights of the season were beating Walton twice in the same week, and avenging an early season defeat at the hands of Delhi. Congratulations to Coach Slawson and the boys for a fine season. 4 Hancock 0 D.C.S......,......12 Tread.
