E A Signed: Senior Class of 1956 I. I. CLASS PROPHECY In the year of 1960, the Juniors of '56 took off in Road Run, their ATOMIC POWERED HOT ROD, which travels at a mere 600 mph, to find the Seniors of '56. Our first flat tire found us in a snow covered village of Daddy-O, Alaska, where we heard a strange sort of jlve coming from a nearby snowbank. We started digging in the snow and whom should we uncover, but Richard Mud-Hen Roggy, who was always a very sound sleeper in school, you know. As the boys worked feverishly in the cold. the girls decided to see if they could find Carolyn Rudy Shaffer, who had married an alrman when she was in the Alr Force and they had moved to Alaska . We were invited in for blubber and after visiting for awhile, we took off for places unknown. In a llttle jungle town called Go-Man-Go, Africa, we had our second flat tire. While the tlre was being fixed, we saw a crowd in the square and who should be the center of attraction, but Sally DeLllly Ryburn Wagner. She had Kink tied to a pole and was giving him fifty lashes with a wet noodle at high noon, while their nine little baseball players cheered mommy on to victory. With our tire fixed, we started through the jungle when someone yelled, Look up in the sky, lt's a bird, it's a plane, no, lt's jerry Do-Do Daugherty swinging from tree to tree crying the call of the Do-Do bird.

Starting the year off with seven girls and five boys, our two main projects were a bakery sale and a scrap drive . QThe boys had two scrap drives, since they had to clean-up after the scrap drive .D Doing their part in making us feel welcome, the Sophomores had a Clean-Up Party for our initiation project. Instead of doing silly, useless things, we had to clean up parts of the building, but we didn't mind - lt was really more fun than work!!! We sponsored a big sledding party in january, which was loads of fun and helped to make our first year in high school a pleasant and profitable one . Skipping back to school as Silly Sophomores the following year, we had lost Ronnie Elliot, but gained Bill Craddock, Carol Golden, and Linda Dunlap. This year, we got to welcome the Freshmen with a big initiation program and kangaroo court that turned out to be more fun than we expected. Again that year, our main projects included a bakery sale and scrap drive and picking up corn. Starting out our third year in high school with a big bang as jolly Juniors, we were all set for our class play and prom. Our play, entitled, No Bride For The Groom was given on November 12 and 13, After working hard for a long time on our decorations and plans, we gave our junior-Senior Banquet and Prom on May 7 . Our theme was Oriental Gardens and Al Pizzamlgllo was our orchestra The big project for earning money was selling pop and candy throughout the school year and again picking up corn. Another big hlt our junior year was receiving our class rings . They arrived in early November and everyone was really proud of them . Also, we helped to publish the Lowdowns which, we all agree, was lots of fun and we enjoyed the experience . Sharon Dulany was Assistant Editor of the yearbook this year, and Nancy Miller was Assistant Editor of the school paper. V Walking up the walk to begin our last year at Downs High as Sophisticated Seniors ln 1956, we were left with only 4 boys and 4 girls after losing Nancy Miller Our main attractions this year were our class play, and graduation, and our class tri p. Our play was entitled l-lobgoblln House and was presented on Friday, April 13. We again published the Lowdowns with the help of the juniors, with Carolyn Shaffer as Editor - and we put out a yearbook, The Dee of which Sharon Dulany was the Editor. Our main money-project this year was selling cakes at the ball games, to go towards our class trip. As we leave our high school, we predict that those who come after us will have as much happiness as we have had in being at Downs High School. Class Motto TO BE SATISFIED WITH NOTHING BUT THE BEST Class Colors. Mint Green and Dusty Rose Class Flower: Lily of the Valley CLASS WILL of 1956 We the Senior Class of Downs Community High School, Downs, Illinois, County McLean, being in full possession of our mental faculties and endowed with unusual foresight, do now, in our last will and testament, bequeath the following, with the sincere hope that our successors may be able to carry on to a maximum degree the great work we have begun ---- To Mr. Knott, half of the United States Army to guard the scotch tape, pencils, candy, etc. s To Mrs .
