on 5 A55 HISTORY We the Semors of Downs Hlgh School started out as young Freshies mthe year of mneteen hundred and forty e1ght Those who were enrolled ln our class were Burl Baker, Beverly Clarke Louetta Carver Melvm Dewey, Frxeda Heldelberg Carol Kmkald Rosemary Momcal Warren Shoemaker Joan Vogel, Donald Wagner and Patrlcxa Wltzxg All of us went through a well orgamzed 1n1t1at1on and obeyed our leaders m every way posslble That mght we went through court sessxon and had to do many trlcks After our court sesslon We were served doughnuts and cxder But we got trlcked we had to do the dxshesl Dur1ng the year we lost one classmate Warren Shoemaker The boys went out for sports and the gnrls took part m glrl s chorus All were ln mlxed chorus and Burl and Frleda represented us 1n the band In the year of 48 we enrolled as s1lly Sophomores and we do mean sllly W surely thought we were somethmg, because we were planmng the 1n1t1at1on for the Freshmen They went through the fancy work too Two people moved away from our class Melvm Dewey and Rosemary Momcal Seems as though our class was steadlly decreasmg Mlss Amerskx to the student body The members of our class surprlsed Mr Adams on h1s bxrthday by glvmg hlm a party Next came the tlme when we fmally became upper classmen and came back to school as .Tumors We found out that our class was st1ll decreasmg and thls tlme xt had really decreased We had lost f1ve members! We were begmmng to thmk we wouldn t be able to have a sen1or class and that would have beenterrlble after spendmg three years m school! The .Tumor Play was presented on Aprll 13 Our class gave three one act plays entltled But Now There s Buford P1g of My Dreams, and ' Sprmg Daze Durmg play tlme we added a new member to our class whom we were glad to have B111 Phelps came to us from Heyworth May 12 was the blggest event of the year at least the .Tumors always thmk sol The Jumor Semor Banquet and Prom were both held at the school We decorated the study hall and gym wlth a Mexlcan theme and danced to the musnc of Ted Kagel s Orchestra The last and fmal year of our hlgh school work and fun has now rolled arolmd Before we forget we would l1ke for you to know that we d1dn't lose any of our mem bers, so we now have SlX Semors We began the actxv1t1es of the year by sellmg ads for our yearbook on September 17 We measured for our caps and gowns on October 5 On October 22 we went to Bloomlngton to have our sen1or plctures taken Our last year IS a hard one, but lots of fun We have the Sweetheart Ball, yearbook and graduatwn to thmk about along wlth all the lmportant thmgs that make up our daxly exlstencel V H ' Il ' . e . , .
