TO THE CLASS OF 1958 The office of Armed Forces Information and Education of the De- partment of Defense has recently published an interesting little bro- chure. Written all over its cover is its title, KEEP ON LEARNING. One of the largest industries in America sponsored a television program in October. It was devoted to some 30 'alumni' of the in- dustry's off-duty training program, started more than a quarter of a century ago for the improvement and advancement of its workers. It was nuly phenomenal to meet on the program ,man after man who had risen through the ranks to executive positions because he had been am- bitious enough to KEEP ON LEARNING. The obvious idea which I am trying to pass on to the Class of '58, is that ahigh school graduate has not really finished anything. In truth, he has just started to learn. lf he hopes to succeed in the world into which he has suddenly been spilled by his high school, he must realize the importance of the advice to KEEP ON LEARNING. Some of the graduates will go to college to take post-high school courses. Others may have the opportunity for the in-training offered by the various branches of the military service and by many of the more progressive industries. ln addition to these formal opportunities for more education, every community has cultural and educational programs for those who want to improve themselves. Whatever may be your ambition in life, and wherever your path may lead, it is my hope that a part of the equipment which you will forever carry with you will be the determination to KEEP ON LEARN- ING. -- J. H. N. Waring, Jr. Principal
