A good teacher is like a good friend -- honest, caring, fair, empathetic, patient and critical. He has time and energy to spend with another and is willing to go the extra mile with .and for. his student or friend. The admirable person who can display these qualities too infrequently receives observable awards. He must be able to get satisfaction from knowing that he has helped another and that he is appreciated .even if he is not told that very often.Nevertheless, it is especially nice for one's self-esteem to receive public recognition. Paul Hurley is a great teacher and a great friend. On this occasion of being honored I congratulate Paul, on behalf of the entire staff, on all his personal and professional achievements this year. We are proud to work with him- the 1988 Teacher of the Year! -Fran Kelleher
