LAURA IN CEYLON Lizards . . . riding on an elephant’s trunk . . snake charmers and cobras . . spicy foods wearing a saree Buddhist temples . fruits . . speaking Sinhalese the Perahera Festi- val . the Taj Mahal my family — all were part of my unique experience in Ceylon. Taken in and totally accepted as a member of the De Silva family, I quickly learned that people are people all over the world. One’s color, religion, house, and clothes have little meaning when the business at hand is learning how much alike we all are. I wish everyone could have had the wonderful chance I had and I thank everyone who made it possible. 16
