Science Our science program is designed to teach the students scientific principles which will best prepare them for college and will also apply to every way of life. Although Chemistry and Physics are electives, Biology is required of all students. Revisions are made periodically which utilize recent discoveries and newer- teaching concepts. The goals of the program are to provide knowledge for everyone, to teach students to think, and to encourage the capable student to enter scientific fields as vocations. GET READY TO RUN! Jim Aaron advises his laughing co-workers Pete Smith. Linda Cox, and Cheryl Fisher.

Guidance YOU'LL BE WORKING ON THE RAILROAD, Alison, if you don't apply to college early. Guidance service is available to all students by individual and group counseling. Special help is also provided at each grade level. In tenth grade a reading test and an educational development test are given. All eleventh grade students take a scholastic aptitude test and college bound students are urged to take college boards and the Merit Scholarship test. In twelfth grade the academic students are helped to select colleges and to apply to them; the commercial students are aided in job placement; the boys are informed of the opportunities in the armed forces; those uncertain about vocations are given a test by the State Employment Service. Library Presently, a temporary library is in use. The old library is non-existent, giving way to the new Physics Department. Upon completion, the new library will hold 21,000 books compared to the present 7,000. A conference room will be greatly enlarged with, possibly, magazines on microfilm. Despite the inconvenience, this year the library is one of the most important departments in the school for it serves as both a culture and an information center. 12 THIS IS THE LIBRARY THAT WAS.

The activities are broad in scope with emphasis placed on the acquisition of worthwhile habits, attitudes, knowledge, and skills. This year the department is concentrating on sports that can be enjoyed after graduation from high school: archery, golf, tennis, volleyball and softball. Because students must be kept informed of recent knowledge in this field, health is required for all juniors for three periods each week. The classes stress the improvement of the health of the individual, the health problems of the community, the various health organizations and the responsibility of each individual for the better health of the nation.
