These were the sixth graders who visited us for a sneak preview of their next school year. The majority of these guests enjoyed their first visit to the big, bewildering Jr. High School. Some of the reactions, however, were quite varied. “The teachers were too strict”. “I got a charge out of Mr. D’s Science Classes”. “I don’t like gym.” One of the best reactions was “I think it’s too noisy”! We’re inclined to agree. All in all, they were very much impressed by our shenanigans and in general enjoyed their visit. We were glad to have them. Imagine them being schocked by our behavior! Lenny was our treasurer and kept the account books in order. Joe covered most of the sports news. Midway in the year, Richard joined up too, and has worked hard ever since, typing copy. DALLAS • TEXAS The Best Yearbooks are TAYLOR-MADE Zhe night has a thousand eyes Md the day but one-, yet the light of the bright world dies With the dying sun. On May 31, the Class of 1936 held its Commencement Exercises on the Athletic Field. The theme of the program, Tomorrow Begins Today, was presented by four student speakers. Samuel Matthews gave the address of welcome and introduced the theme; Joan Piersol spoke on WHO; John Dawson discussed UNESCO; Philomena DiBeredinis explained UNICEF. The address to the class was delivered by Dr. Robert D. Hershey, Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, New York City, whose thought was that in order to keep knowledge, you must give it away—share it. Several members of the class received special awards: Virginia Stayer, the Mcllvain Scholarship; Joan Piersol, the D. A. T. A. Scholarship; Joan Piersol and Irvin Rubin-cam, the Alumni Awards. The most important event of the evening was the presentation of diplomas by Mr. George Nixdorf, president of the school board, assisted by Messrs. Thomas Brookover, James Manley, Elmer Matthews, and Edward Stouff, members of the joint board.
