9 f THE 1954 SENIOR CLASS of,ihsL DOWNINGTOWN JOINT HIGH SCHOOL fi ULiSinjtA, The CUCKOO ‘JhsimsL’ WE, the staff of the '54 CUCKOO, think that dancing expresses the pep, sociability, and self-reliance typical of teenagers. WE feel that in our high school life we have developed resourcefulness and self-confidence through the work and associations we have made during our four years of study. WE hope that these qualities will help us as we leave high school and enter into a new phase of cultural life. WE, therefore, have chosen dancing as the theme for our 1954 yearbook. He always has a smile and a kind word for everyone. He is always ready to help without thought of personal reward. He has a philosophy which gives to others the confidence that, whatever may go wrong in the present, the future holds innumerable opportunities for those who will seize them. For these reasons and many others, we, the Class of 1954, in humble gratitude dedicate this yearbook to our teacher and friend, MR. OUR MISS BROOKS ★ ★ ★ On November 19 and 20, 1953, the Senior Class presented a three act comedy entitled Our Miss Brooks. It relates the troubles that beset Miss Brooks when she must, unwillingly, direct the senior play. She doesn't wish to fight with the coach over the use of the gym for rehearsals, for she feels sure that he is “the man for her. More trouble arises during the tryouts and the problems continue to multiply until the situation seems hopeless. But, at the last minute, everything is successfully resolved with Hugo, the coach, helping Miss Brooks, and appreciating her for the first time. We wish to thank the cast, prompters, stage crew, Mrs. Remetz, the Art Service Club, and Miss Laird, for making our play such a success. CAST Miss Brooks, an English teacher .
