Electives, not permitted to be substituted for the required courses, include speech, drama, and journalism. Drama students stage two prin- cipal productions, the fall play and the spring play, as well as a night of one-act plays and a night ot dramatic readings. Head Drafting ll Architectural Drawing ROBERT EGAN Special Education Another type ot art, most essential to the development of the student to prepare him for life as an adult, is that of the practical: homemaking and industrial arts. Girls in the homemaking department learn to plan family budgets, to prepare nutritious and appetizing meals, to make clothing, and to prepare for the woman's role as wife and mother. Home economists from well-known firms are guest lecturers, ministers give counsel on maintaining a happy home life. Boys get practical training in wood shop, metal shop, elec- tronics, mechanical drawing and drafting, They learn how to work safely, how to care tor tools so that they will last for a long time, and how to make many things for themselves. All ot these courses are elective for students in all three grades.
