Where Were You? How Are You? Amid the early morning confusion of students seeking re- admittance to school after an absence, the attendance office clerks work quickly, smoothly and efficiently in the operation of one of the most important mechanisms of the school. Under the direction of Mr. Clarence Bacha, whose official title is director of child welfare and attendance, the office keeps official records of all absences, tardies, excuses to keep dental and medical appointments. Since the school receives state funds on the basis of average daily attendance, the importance of this office is obvious. These are typical attention of our school nurse, ailments which get the Mrs. C letice Brown. concerned with much more than But Nurse Brown is the temporary ailments of students. One of her biggest projects of the year is the tuberculin testing program, to all students at some time which is administered during their years at DSH5. And so begins a typical visit with your counselor. Our counselors are: Miss Betty Eondren, Mrs. Margaret West, Mr. Arthur Maurer, and Mr. Alfred llemkin. It is the duty of each to assist each student under his jurisdiction in: proper selection of subjects, improving study habits, helping those who are not socially adjusted, and helping each student planforhis future now. Under the capable direction of Mr. Bragg, Director of Counselors, they contact each student during the school year and offer guidance.
