an After school opened in September, everyone waited for the day that our newly constructed cafeteria and snack bar would serve hot meals. For the first few weeks the cafeteria staff worked at a disadvantage, but kept everyone supplied with sandwiches, drinks and packaged foods, At last the day came when the staff could use the new kitchen equipment, and serve hot nourishing meals during the two lunch periods. Mrs. Vola Bard is the lunch program super- visor for the Downey Union High SchoolDistrict, and Mrs. Merle Bell is the manager of the DSHS cafeteria. Besides serving meals during the two lunch periods daily, and supplying the lines at the snack bar, the cafeteria staff handles the refreshments for many school functions, including the Girls' League activities, P.T.A. meetings, and many banquets.
