SHAMBAUGH Superintendent Downey Union High School District Certainly one of the most important parts of our school is District Superintendent Clifford F. Shambaugh, for he provides the path which our wheel follows. He is entrusted with carrying out the policies of the Board of Trustees, and is more or less responsible for everything in the district. Besides Downey Senior High, the District which he supervises has another senior high school fEarl Warren Highi, four junior highs fNorth, South, East and Westi, with another junior high soon to be built. Before the end of this school year, Mr. Shambaugh and his staff had to evacuate the old administration building, which was demolished, and a new central administration is being built at Brookshire and Iowa to house all the district administrative offices. ln charge of business operations is Asst. Superintendent L.H. fLeei Williams. Under his jurisdiction are the accounting, payroll, cafeteria, purchasing, and custodial management. Work orders which teachers submit for repairs and improvements must go through his office. Both Mr. Shambaugh and Mr. Williams work very closely with the architects on the building program for the district. TREDWAY fMemberi Giving direction to the course our wheel follows down the road of progress is a group of citizens who work in the interest of the Downey Union High School District, Elected by the people within the district, this group, the Board of Trustees, spends many hours, often into the small hours ofthe night, seeing to it that the students at DSHS ride as smoothly as possible down the road to an education. 'fuizy ,ff 3 ,-m.,.,.,n Not only do they have the responsibility of seeing that the taxpayer gets the most for his tax dollar in the new buildings which have been needed in the past several years, but they have general control over all expenditures, including the salaries of teachers, and all instructional materials. During the second semester Mr. E.E.
