Twenfy-nine years ago such a person came fo Downey, and since fhaf fime he has become a beloved and respecfed figure here: his name-Mr. William Walker! Mr. Walker was fhe iunior high principal when he came fo Downey, and he faughf such classes as mafh and social sfudies. When fhere was no librarian, he also fook over fhaf iobg when fhe homemaking feacher was ill he fook over fhe class and faughf 'l'he girls how fo bake a cake. ln l942 he became superinfendenf of fhe Downey Union High School Disfricf, buf in Pg6 Buf Mr. Walker has been more fhan a feacher or counselor: he has been a real friend fo everyone, sfudenfs and feachers alike. Therefore, we are sad fo say fhaf fhis is his lasf year here, for he has decided fo say Good-by and refire. ln order fo le'I' him know how everyone feels abouf him, a Bill Walker Day was held May 4, l957, honoring him. And so, Mr. Walker, fo you, from all of us, we would like fo say fhanks for all you've done.
