Toward a More Personal Relationship MQ WILLIAM WALKER To give students a more personal relationship with their teachers is important in education This year Vic discover ed his school had put forth an extra effort to establish this with the creation of class counselors Mr Will am Walker counselor of the senior class not only gives very helpful advice concerning the courses they w sh to take but keeps the seniors up to date on how they stand on credits needed to graduate MR WATT HILL Mr Watt Hill besides being counselor of the junior class also is chairman of the junior class advisers which means a general super pun or class play which helps to finance the Junior Senior Prom and that big social event of the year the Prom itself This is in addition to his duties as a teacher of history and pre flight aeronautics MR ED BRAGG Mr Ed Bragg in addition to his duties as a teacher of al gebra and geometry aids the sophomores in planning their course of study In some re spects his is the b ggest lab of all s nce he deals with a great er number of students all of them co'n ng into Senior H gh for the first time and there fore in greater need of sym pathetic gu dance which Mr Bragg g ves in good measure Page I O I . ,Ls Page lO Counsehng and Guldance When Vic felt the need of help in solving some of the problems that bothered him he knew where to go He knew that Dr Merle Taber was always available to listen with sym pathy that anything he told her would be held in strictest confidence He knew too that both boys and girls students and teachers all could call upon her Thi was Dr Taber s second year as a member of the DUHS family acting in the capacity of consultant Before coming herein an official capacity she was a well known lec turer on family problems and had frequently met w th senior problems classes for discussions of many top cs of interest She has gained the confidence affection and respect of both boys and girls Dr Taber is one of the few women to obtain a degree of doctor of philosophy from Harvard University Dr Merle V Taber CONSULTANT and a Healthy Body Although much of the time of the school nurse Mrs. Sarah Lyance, is taken up with ministering to minor injuries and ailments of students, she likes to consider her chief duty the long-range general health program which will aid stu- dents to a fuller, more satisfying participation in school work. She is particularly interested in learning what defects in hearing and vision hamper Vic and his friends in the process of learning, and to that purpose has conducted otological clinics with guest experts invited.
