33232353233 A FOREWORD T IS WITH much satisfaction and pride that we present to our readers, especially to our Seniors, two outstanding challenges in an economic vein, personally addressed to our students for this fore' word. The first is from the pen of our eminent novelist, Upton Sinclair, author of The Wet Pa' nude, who is supreme as an interpreter of Amerif can social problems, The other contribution is offered by Geoffrey Morgan, who has endeared himself to high school students by such delightful .mperettas as The Belle of Bagdadf' The first challenge voices the great problem of distribution: I hope that at least one student in your class will learn to realize that millions should be starving in a country which can produce plenty for all. N APPEAL is made to us to realize our indif vidual responsibility: In the long run, sucf cess and achievement depend chiefly on the will to win, the effort to achieve, and the ambition to be successful. If these are lacking, then success is not for you.
