Subic Bay It had been a long time since the DOVVNES had been to the fa- bled P.l. ' . We showed up ready for some great liberty, and the Phi- lippines town of Olongapo did not let us down. There was great shopping for wooden items, custom boots, T-shirts and clothing. The food was good and cheap. Even the formaldehyde laden San Miguel Beer didn ' t slow down the Frigate from Hell ' s crew. On Base, the recreation was the best of any base we had seen. Beside the usual sports facilities, there were Go Karts, horse riding, sailing and water skiing, and Grande Island, (Picnic Center of the World). Of course all recreation yielded to a lough week of an all out availability at the Subic shipyard. One heck of a busy week! i- w s f i IP

On the 13th of November, OSC(SW) Ciagnon, OS3 Largenl and [;W3 Hess par- ticipated in the first ever Hnghsh Week at the Baptist l.ui Ming Choi Secondary School in Shatin, Hong Kong. The event was co-sponsored by the American Wom- en ' s Association. They helped kids between the ages 15-17 to improve their knowledge The event was highly successful. The crew members really enjoyed helping these kids better understand not only our lan- guage, but also what life is really like in the U.S. Apparently, the students asked some pretty tough teen-age type questions after their teachers left the classroom. pTIST LUI MING CHOI SECOI » PI ueaL n, (i J ( SI W iinih; .nid I . mmm TH2fl i inx in H NO YUiT CMM CNAU RESTAUMAMT •4MJI ««• •JU»« •««.« ScoMk .i»Mrc i V fXSm -i
