Girls's and Boys P.E. lt's quite a responsibility to try to keep 3000 some students in good physical condi- tion, with them fighting every inch of the way, but the P.E. Department does quite a job. There were a variety of classes offered this year such as: Co-ed volleyball - for the girls who want to meet some guys, weightlifting - build those biceps, figure control - for those who lack will power, social dance - to bring out the Fred Astaire in you, team handball - to vent your frustrations, trampoline - not recommended after lunch, to name a few. News of the year: There was one power fail- ure in the gym which stopped classes for awhile. The extremely wet weather kept classes inside this fall more than outside during the 6 weeks designated for outdoor sports. This forced all boys and girls' classes to share the gym, which seems smoller and smaller every day. With more students coming next year, the newly built locker rooms and gymnasium have only temporarily provided relief from overcrowding in the most widely taken course. classes go hand in hand . Science Department Ever noticed some of the strange odors which assault the senses as one nears the west wing of the second floor? Anything from the arrival of the frogs for Biology to a disaster in Chem I is possible. Kids have even been seen wandering the halls with yards and yards of ticker tape from a Physics experiment. All this and more is offered by the Science Depart- ment as they expand to meet the needs of all the students. Approximately 55fM9 of the students enrolled at South are taking science courses this year and the Science Department has expanded to its capacity in order to satis- fy the demand. Classes for non-oriented science students all the way to advanced college bound courses are offered in the inter- est of having a broad curriculum, serving as many students as possible.
