Mr. Ronald Dugan, U. of lll., 7 yrs., Mrs. Jeanne Hughes, Bradley U., 2 yrs., Mr. James Brasen, Elmhurst College, 5 yrs. Math Department A man at point A on one shore ofa lake six miles wide with parallel shore lines, wishes to reach a point C on the other side l3 miles along the bank of the lake from a point B di- rectly opposite the point A. lf he can row four miles per hour and walk five miles per hour and if he sets out by boat, find how far from B he should land in order to make the trip as quickly as possible. l-low long does the trip take? Only our industrious Math Department can land wouldl take the time to solve this ridicu- lous problem. One of the largest departments in the school, its l7 members serve over 50W-, of the student body. The resource center is always filled to capacity. Math seems to be a very popular course or is it likely that it is a subject that racks the brain clay in and :lay out, hour by hour, and second by second? This question, similiar to the one above, is difficult to answer. None the less, the teachers are of the highest caliber and whether your reason for taking math is because you have to or because you want too , by the end of the year one will have learned an immense amount of subject material. Girls's and Boys P.E. lt's quite a responsibility to try to keep 3000 some students in good physical condi- tion, with them fighting every inch of the way, but the P.E. Department does quite a job. There were a variety of classes offered this year such as: Co-ed volleyball - for the girls who want to meet some guys, weightlifting - build those biceps, figure control - for those who lack will power, social dance - to bring out the Fred Astaire in you, team handball - to vent your frustrations, trampoline - not recommended after lunch, to name a few. News of the year: There was one power fail- ure in the gym which stopped classes for awhile. The extremely wet weather kept classes inside this fall more than outside during the 6 weeks designated for outdoor sports. This forced all boys and girls' classes to share the gym, which seems smoller and smaller every day. With more students coming next year, the newly built locker rooms and gymnasium have only temporarily provided relief from overcrowding in the most widely taken course. classes go hand in hand .
