Math Department A man at point A on one shore ofa lake six miles wide with parallel shore lines, wishes to reach a point C on the other side l3 miles along the bank of the lake from a point B di- rectly opposite the point A. lf he can row four miles per hour and walk five miles per hour and if he sets out by boat, find how far from B he should land in order to make the trip as quickly as possible. l-low long does the trip take? Only our industrious Math Department can land wouldl take the time to solve this ridicu- lous problem. One of the largest departments in the school, its l7 members serve over 50W-, of the student body. The resource center is always filled to capacity. Math seems to be a very popular course or is it likely that it is a subject that racks the brain clay in and :lay out, hour by hour, and second by second? This question, similiar to the one above, is difficult to answer. None the less, the teachers are of the highest caliber and whether your reason for taking math is because you have to or because you want too , by the end of the year one will have learned an immense amount of subject material.
