Fame and Fortune Leadership, quality, dependability, and co- operation are characteristics everyone would like to claim, and there are always several students within a class that best display these and other admirable traits. The Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution look for these students to be the recipients of the honor. These same characteristics, in addition to outstanding academic talent, are also sought in choosing a well-rounded team to represent South on teleyision's lt's Academ- ic . Meanwhile, a high score on a qualifying test allows South's winner of the Betty Crocker Award to compete for scholarship money. -.Q 2 -EH. 2 A Km ll 1 l Roy Anderson - S.A.R. :BU Irene Phee - National Merit Barb Fruehling - National Merit Finalist Finalist Outstanding Academic Achievements There is a certain distinction in being number one. And for those seniors who managed to maintain outstanding grade-point averages throughout their high school careers, that distinction is compounded with the honor of the title of Valedictorian. These students have worked long and hard to achieve continual quality in their academic endeavors and they truly deserve their honored titles. The student with the next highest average is given the title of Saluta- torian, also a highly honored award. Each year when the results of the National Merit Qualifying Test are received and the fi- nalists announced, every student wishes he could be one of those chosen few. l-lowever, only the very highest scorers become finalists and South is proud and honored to have five finalists this year. To these academically superior students, we wish to extend a warm and sincere con- gratulations.
