Forensics is simply the partici- pation in extra-curricular speech, interpreta- tion, and acting contests. The students in- volved with Forensics, sponsored by Mrs. Steele, had an opportunity to exhibit their speaking ability and meet students from all areas of Northern Illinois. Downers Grove South's Debate Team, coached by Mrs. Wood, completed another successful season this year. Competing on four levels, the team traveled to various high schools in the Chicago area to debate the proposition, Resolved: All financial support for all public elementary and secondary schools in the United States should be provided exclusively by the Federal govern- ment. The climax of the year was a trip to the state championships at Champaign. Thespians is an honor society to recognize superior work in all parts of theater. These students are selected by the sponsor, Mrs. Wood, on the basis of points which are earned for the work they have done. Although it is an honor society, it is also an active club. Members helped to coordinate workshops in the technical fields, make-up, lighting and costume design. They attended many protes- sional productions in Chicago. This year, they saw Godspell, Don Juan in Hell, and No, No, Nonette. They also attended the Interna- tional and State Thespian Conference. The year ends with the annual Initiation Banquet where new members are announced.
