The People Behind the Scenes at South Without the assistance of the tech- nical hands of the stage and light crews, a drama production would not be complete. Stage Crew builds sets for all the- ater works in both the Auditorium and the Little Theater and also assists in summer productions. Besides building the various sets they also chonge them during the different plays. Members of the Light Crew may be found in the catwalks or high in the light booth of the Auditorium. Their varied lighting techniques set the time and moods for each production. Masque and Gavel Masque and Gavel is the largest club in the school. lt had 350 members interested in all areas of dramatic experience. Dance, stage design, costume design, and make-up were as much a part of Masque and Gavel as acting. The club was active all year long. They started out the year with a Freshman Picnic. Then, in the fall, they worked at the football concession stand and they sponsored the Homecoming Dance. During the year, all ad- vance ticket sales at South were handled by Masque and Gavel. M8.G also presented a Children's play as a benefit for the lnfant Welfare League and two Debut Theater pro- grams for students who haven't been in a high school production before. They also assisted in financing certain projects. This year, they purchased equipment for the T.V. Studio and they provide funds for students attending summer debate institutes. VanDyke. l During evening and weekend events at South Cploys, concerts, open housesl, the 28 members of the Ushers Club, sponsored by Mrs. Cote, were present to help. Their duties consisted of directing people to their seats, passing out programs, and taking tickets. President of the service group is Nanette Wiese. Kim Sceper, V-President, Debbie Klipper, Secretary, and Dorthy Klasen, Treasurer assisted in organizing the Ushers Club activities. Another group whose work was present at South's theatrical productions was the Illustrators Club. These students used their artistic talents to express their interpretations of the show. Before performances, the entrance of the auditorium was decorated with colorful drawings and paintings. one hundred forty-nine
