This is only a part of what goes into a Caracole page. At deadline time especially, Room lO2 was often filled with staff members plus the editors working to produce a book that everyone would enjoy. Though the idea of completing one's pages was sometimes overwhelming, thoughts of seeing the finished book and helping in its production made it all worthwhile The goal of a good newspaper is to keep its readers involved and informed about what is going on around them. Such was the case with the Blueprint. Under the direction of Miss Cynthia Draving, the Blueprint made every ef- fort to make its newspaper the best one yet. Among the changes this year were the bi- weekly distribution, the establishment of a News-Briefs column and a deeper analysis of news relevant to the student body. Editori- als became more interesting and design and content improved until the Blueprint achieved a very high standard of quality. This year's Blueprint staff worked hard at turning out a newspaper which was an important service to all who read it. .4-4-nu., fl. 'W 'W' .hi

Calliope, the Friends Program Something of a special event takes place every spring with the coming of the annual Calliope, South's literary magazine. This collection of virtu- al masterpieces contained a delightful combina- tion of poetry, fiction, drawings and just plain thoughts. Students carefully scanned the pages in hopes of seeing something of their own on the printed page. The responsibility of compiling the Calliope belonged to the staff. With their sponsor, Mr. Abraham, they must decide what goes into the magazine, fa task in itselfl and then edit, type, manage and assemble until the finished product meets their approval. However, none of this would be possible without the many literary works sub- mitted by the students. A Friend is someone who likes you. The Friends Program at South ran under this same philosophy. Students participating in the Friends Program spent their free time as teacher aides in some of the area elementary schools or in helping the handicapped. These devoted girls not only helped teachers but acquired a certain knowledge and satisfaction on their own that is certainly gratifying. W . if .au mp. FRIENDS PARTICIPANTS: K. Mitorai, C. Pence, L.
