Science, Bridge and Chess Clubs As a result ot the recent chess match between Bobby Fisher and Boris Spassky, the interest in chess at South has increased. The thirty members of the Chess Club compete in tournaments with other schools, but the purpose of the club is not solely to be competitive. The club tries to increase the students interest in learning how to play chess and in working with Mr. Mayfield, the sponsor, to improve their own playing abilities. The Science Club, under the direction ot Mr. Wiemerslage, sponsor, has worked hard this year to raise money for an observatory. The club also enjoyed guest speakers and sponsored those students who entered the Science Fair in the spring. An interest in playing bridge and having a good time is one thing that the thirty members of the Bridge Club have in common. At bridge parties every week at a club members' home, the students test their skills and teach those new members who haven't yet mastered the game. SCIENCE CLUB - Front Row: K. Vosecek, P. Pomes, E.
