IT5 R BIRD, IT'5 R PLANE, . No! It’s Clark Kent just learning to type for the Daily Planet. Typing is one of the chief necessities for college preparation or any kind of career in business. Find- ing the different letters is one challenge, but it is even harder to type without looking at the keys! The real test is to start typing fast which is fun, if not too many mistakes are made. The most impor- tant lesson to learn, though, is not to get mad at the typewriter, when you are the one who made mis- takes! Mr. Johnson is the Departmental Head for Busi- ness Education. This year we had the same staff as last year. Physical Education is one of the few classes that everyone takes in high school. Upperclassmen, Seniors and Juniors, make a choice of what sports they will have next year. Some of the options arc bowling, cross country skiing, P.T A (Pain. Tor- ture, and Agony), and many others. The Seniors and Juniors also have another privilege of indepen- dent gym. A student has an activity such as ballet; each day the student will report in to the teacher, but does the sport on his own. Many students always have excuses for not wearing their gym suit One of the likely reasons is 'The cat ate my gymsuil!” Is that what happened to yours, when you forgot it last week? Dr. Hayes is the Departmental Head of Physical Education. The one new teacher we have at North is Mr Kupish. who teaches Cym and Social Stud- ies. Mrs. Zielinski returned this year after having her baby. The teachers who left last year were Miss Kemnski who taught one class of Health and all other gym classes. Mrs. Scheigert also taught Phys- ical Education last year. Is Gina Husted asleep, or is she typing with her eyes closed? Do Not Disturb Kurt Clemmensen! Great writ- er learning to type. 28 BUSINESS ED; P.E.

WDRD5 OF THE WORLD Don't you love addressing a full auditorium of people with nothing to hide behind but a podium and the twenty-minute speech you wrote during the last two days about Macedo- nian axes? Then the Communications depart- ment is for you! Communications not only cov- ers speech, but also drama, debate, forensics, radio (WDGC 88.3 FM) and television. The department according to Head Fred Moore continues to grow, develops new courses, and provides academic communications experiences for all students. The signs in the halls on the boards and in the listening lab say say it in a Foreign Language. And why not? Language is an intrical part of the curriculum, comments Department Head Richard Jontry. learning language and culture leads a student to evaluate his own society and gives him an improved outlook on his self-concept, creativity and intu- itive (ought. Highlights in the language depart- ment scene this year included two special as- semblies, and the different language classes made trips to restaurants designed after the cul- ture they studied. The French classes made a field trip to study French art in the art institute and had their annual crepe fest in January The German students held their 4th annual Okto- berfest in the fall, and the Spanish classes cre- ated a special unit on the problems of illegal aliens. Languages are looked at too much as a mere fringe benefit of a curriculum states Mr. Jontry. Yet, language and culture knowledge can benefit anyone.” ?Como? ( As in Perry? Wonders a student in the listening lab.) Near the end of class French teacher Miss Fou- tris gives her class final homework instruc- tions. In Mr. Reid's speech class, the students hold a small group presentation. 30 COMMUNICATIONS
