The first class starts exactly one hour after you wake up ... but are you really awake? Semiconsciously you enter the building and find your locker. After three or four attempts to unlock your combination, which seems to change daily, success pre- vails and you deposit your coat, trying to remember what books you need for your first class ... and what your first class is. Sitting in English, (you remem- bered) you very cleverly concetrate on the Science Fiction homework due next mod. In fact, you are concentrat- ing so hard you almost don't notice that neat little white slip that says NOW in red at the top . . . It is on your way to the Dean's of- fice you realize you forgot your lunch money .... After waiting two mods to see your Dean, finally it's your turn. You enter the office in a cold sweat, trying to single out something he might have caught you for. The Dean glares at you, and with a voice of authority charges you with ditching PE 13-14. It takes you the entire next mod to explain to him that you have PE 7-8. By this time, Sci Fi is over, so you put the homework away and en- joy the two free periods you have in the scenic, exciting, action-packed cafeteria, watching hungrily while others spend their lunch money on nutritious supplements like chips, coke, and Suzy-Q's. Time for PE, and you have swim- ming! Shivering through the frosty showers, where an energetic pool leader gives you a custom-tailored tank suit in basic black. Twenty min- utes of water survival and it's time to get dressed again. History's next, and you drip your wet hair all over the kid's test in back of you. You finish your test early (the one you studied for in the pool locker room) and wake up in time for the bell. After another bat- tle with your locker, you arrive breathless in chemistry with big plans for your architectural experiment of remodeling the third floor with a sin- gle blast. The bell cuts you short just is you were going to add the final ingredient, nitrus oxide . .. Oh, well, on to typing, where you try to simul- taneously read a letter from your best friend concerning the Earth-shatter- ing possibility of leaving her boy- friend, and type copy from the typing book. As you proofread, you realize that your brain and fingers don't op- erate independently. Saved by the bell, the last bell of the day which entitles you to two glorious mods of creativity in putting together the Cauldron. After school you report to the gym looking pale and wan, and tell the coach that there is absolutely no pos- sibility you can run cross-country to- day without collapsing (cause of death; blownout gym shoe). He ex- cuses you, and you make your way up to the Auditorium for play practice . .. after all, you have a large part. Stage Crew Gofer! Much later you re- turn home ... breathless, but satis- fied.
