The 1978 varsity wrestling team was the best dual-meet team in the his- tory of North high, finishing the season with a 19-0 record. They won the West Suburban Conference as well as District tournaments. Nine wrestlers were members of the All- Conference team including Matt Hejmej, Darrell McNair, Bob Stero- ti, Noel Carter, Larry Clinton, Wayne Smith, Pat Norton, Randy Richey, and Mark Maloney. Ma- loney, who finished second in the State Tournament, was named most valuable wrestler. For the first time in the history of the West Suburban Conference, one school. North High, won the conference cham- pionship in wrestling on ALL FOUR levels of competition. 25
