. . I'll miss the contacts with high school young people and those on the educational staffs.” This yeai, Mr. Herbert Adams is retiring after iVA years at Downers Grove Community High School North. Mr. Adams received Ius B.A. in Education from Illinois State University and his M.A. from the University of Illinois. He has been in education for 40 years, teach- ing F'nglish, French, and Social Studies, and assisting in coaching football and basketball. In 1941, Mr. Adams began teaching social studies at Downers Grove North High School. He became a counselor in 1947. Dean of Boys in 1956. and Assistant Principal in 1964. He has now been Principal since 1967, during which time he served as chairman of the West Suburban Principals Association for a year. During his lime at Downers Grove North High School. Mr. Adams has been pancake chef for the annual senior breakfast, sponsor for Student Council, sponsor for AFS. and the first sponsor for Pom Pon in 1957. Mr. Adams has been involved in such community activities as Kiwanis, Park Board. Youth Center Board, Moderator for the Congregational Church, and Fall Festivals. Planning to stay in Downers Grove after he retires. Mr. Adams would like to do some traveling, develop hobbies, and learn, again, to play tennis. He also plans to assist in volunteer work such as with Little Friends Sheltered Workshop and the Farm Club. He might possibly get a part-time job for building social security benefits, but mainly he wants to enjoy a life that does not include so many meetings and so much paperwork. . . . I owe a great deal to many people, but especially to Mr. George Dewolf and Dr. Glenn Pickrel, former Superintendents of Schools, and to Mrs. Charlotte Andersen, a former Assistant Principal, and Mr. Clarence Johnson, former Principal of Downers North. I shall never forget them.” 2
