Treasurer; Ed Piekarz, Vice-President; Bob Pachter, President. Pupils Specialize, Become Skilled in Diversified Hobbies NUMISMATICS CLUB, dedicated to study- ing the science of coins and metals, was sponsored by Mr. Robert Katrein. Members learned the grading of coins and shared in- terests with experienced collectors. The club's activities included a visit to the annual Chicago Coin Show. The ever-popular sport of snow and sun attracted a growing number of students. SKI CLUB, sponsored by Mr. Alan Hutchi- son brought members together for films, lessons in ski safety rules, dry land instruc- tions, and discussions of ski areas and con- ditions. Members of BRIDGE CLUB, sponsored by Mr. Stanley Steed, learned the complicated skills of bridge. Meetings were held to pro- vide members opportunity to put these skills into practice, giving students a start on their way to masterpoints and championships. 25 SKI CLUB-Barb Wasson, Secretary-Treasurer; Mr. Alan Hutchison. The four language clubs of last year were joined together this year to form one club, INTERNATIONAL CLUB, under the spon- sorship of Mr. Gary Elmen, Mr. Richard Hayek, and Miss Holly Harden. Members celebrated various national festivals, heard guest speakers from foreign backgrounds, and learned phrases and folksongs from dif- ferent languages. Chess, a game played in one form or another throughout the civilized world, is one of the few games of pure skill. CHESS CLUB spon- sored by Mr. Elton Martin, held weekly meetings to improve members'playing tech- niques. Participating in monthly matches between west suburban schools, the club concluded its year in a conference tour- nament in May. THE SCIENCE CLUB, sponsored by Mr. Clifford Blatchley, expanded members' sci- entific knowledge and sparked members' in- terests in all fields of science, with guest speakers and field trips. Receiving a head start to a good job, mem- bers of the OFFICE OCCUPATIONS CLUB were trained in office and secretarial skills. Under the supervision of Mrs. Elizabeth Marcello, the club attended various sec- retarial conferences and held its third annual employer-employee dinner. FUTURE NURSES OF AMERICA under the guidance of Mrs. Irene Edwards, explored the requirements and opportunities in nurs- ing and medical careers. Activities during the year included a field trip to an area hospital and a stuffed animal sale to provide scholar- ship money for FNA members. THE FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA, sponsored by Mrs. Jane Pohlman, enabled its members to study the qualities, traits, and attitudes which are basic to successful teach- ing. The club's activities included selling feathers at games, baking cookies for the teachers' association, and visiting National College of Education. Students Interests O.O.
