d.o. and d.e. Expand Programs Mr. H. Chicoinc and Mr. S. Uchcrck discuss future refinements in D.O. and Increased numbers of students are par- ticipating in the expanding DIVERSIFIED OCCUPATIONS and DISTRIBUTIVE EDU- CATION programs. The success of these projects has attracted many local business- men and factory owners to the program. DIVERSIFIED OCCUPATIONS, under the supervision of Mr. Henry Chicoine, trains students who are planning to pursue careers in the trades. DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCA- TION. guided by Mr. Stephen Ucherek. is involved with students who work as sales personnel or clerks. These students go to school until noon, at which time they leave for work. All of those who take part in these programs carry the full load of four classes a day; they work at least fifteen hours a week and are paid by employers according to the standard wage scale. The students in D.O. and D.E. receive training and assistance for their jobs from instructors at the school. Dcbby Jcdlicka. business Adds Marketing Course Students enrolled in business courses learn skills useful in professional and private life. Thus the BUSINESS DEPARTMENT, under the direction of Mr. William Corr, periodically revises both equipment and courses to keep pace with contemporary standards. A Burroughs calculator and electric typewriters are among the new ma- chines the department has obtained. The purchase of IBM key punches is being planned. These key punches will be used to aid students in data processing and com- puter work, courses already being offered. This year a course in marketing was added to the curriculum to give students an under- standing of the procedure of buying and selling goods. Mr. Harvey Waylund gives practical instruction. physical education Introduces Early Bird Classes This year (he PHYSICAL EDUCATION department, under the direction of Mr. James Stahl, has introduced early bird gym classes for both boys and girls. These classes are held from 7:30 until 8:15 A.M.. allowing students to take extra subjects or enjoy a free period during the school day. Also, an Independent Physical Education program was initiated for boys participating in varsity athletics: students excercise on their own and then report their progress to the teacher. The department aquired a new Goliath tram- poline which was used by both the new gym- nastics team and the gym classes. As usual, the Trojan Boosters Club was very active this year. The club is open to all members of the community willing to raise supporting funds, buy equipment for the athletic teams, or film various athletic con- tests.
