STUDENT HONORS Honor Students — Susan Warford. Mar- tha White. Arnold Dicke. Lynne Brad- ley. Barbara Hughes. Top Scholars — This year, for the second time in Downers his- tory four seniors have tied for the honor of valedictorian. Lynne Bradley, Barbara Hughes, Susan Warford, and Arnold Dicke each finished the first seven semesters of high school work with a perfect 4.00 grade average. Martha White is salutatorian. National Merit Finalists — Downers Grove High School this year placed three students in the finals of the Na- tional Merit Scholarship competition. These seniors were Martha White. John Wittekindt, and Arnold Dicke. Martha and Arnold were also semi-finalists for the General Motors National and Na- tional Honor Society Scholarships. Dicke received a General Motors grant and an honorary Merit Scholarship. National Merit Finalists — John Witte- kindt, Martha White. Arnold Dicke.

QUILL SCROLL Quill and Scroll member- ship is annually awarded to those staff members of Cal- dron and High Life who have shown outstanding achieve- ment in journalism. Members of the International Society for High School Journalists, after meeting requirements of high scholastic standing and superior ability in editing, writing, or business manage- ment were nominated by DG HS advisors, Mrs. Lois Dahl. Mr. George Pappas, and Miss Betty Lee Chessman, and ap- proved by the Society’s Exe- cutive Secretary. The mem- bers nominated in March, received gold pins and sub- scriptions to Quill and Scroll magazine. National Thespians — Row 1 Janet Dian, Royann Pedersen. Wendy Gooder, Emily Guthrie. Carol Charlton. Marilyn Bertha. Row 2 Betts Baukol, Judy Rungger, Judy James, Sue Perry, Sue Warford, Karen Hammond. Row 3 Nancy Smuk. Betty Kozak. Linda Brody. Suzanne LaFayette. Jeri Logemann, Carol Poindexter, Monica Stephenson. Row 4 Jeff Harris. Dave Hassell. Mike Marchiando, Bill Kornrumpf. Phil Hanson, John Wittekindt, Jim Korb, Danny Fulton, Dick Anderson. THESPIANS Thespian-Troop 1886 forms the nucleus of Drama Club. Selection of members is based on points awarded for acting or backstage work. Drama Club workshops on make-up, lighting and acting, are super- vised by Thespian members. Thespians took part in sev- eral conferences this year: the club won the attendance tro- phy at the Northern Illinois Regional Conference and par- ticipate in the program at the National Convention at Bloomington. STUDENT HONORS G.A.A.Cup — Since 1928 the Girls’ Ath- letic Association has had the name of one outstanding senior girl engraved on the G A A cup. This year it has chosen to honor Doris Groeneveld for her valuable service on the G A A board and for her personality and leadership qualities which have helped to promote a certain desirable spirit in all physical education activities. Doris, along with Marsha Foster, Jeanne Loewenau, and Nancy Seinwerth, the other nominees, received miniature cups as re- memberances. GAA Cup — Nancy Sein- werth, Marsha Foster, Doris Groeneveld, Jeanne Loe- wenau. Foreign Exchange — Downers students’ knowledge of foreign countries has been extended by foreign exchange program. Last year’s exchange student, Kathy Sax- ton, reported to all the home rooms this year on her experiences in Germany last summer. This summer two students will represent Downers in Europe. Mary Gib- son was chosen to return the visit of Mireille Chausse of Marseilles, France. Mi- reille spent the entire 1959-60 school year at Downers. Dick Lucier was selected as one of ten teenagers from the Chicago area to attend the Y.M.C.A. World Youth Conference in Amsterdam. Foreign Exchange — Mireille Chausse, Kathy Saxton, Mary Gibson, Dick Lucier. D.A.R. — From the three finalists, Gwen Law, Betty Sue Frey, and Joan Keough, Gwen Law was chosen as this year’s D A R “Good Citizen.” She, along with other girls chosen from their senior classes in each of the fifty states, were paid tribute as a Daughter of the American Revolution for their dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. These qualities, her gen- uine regard for the welfare of others, and her strong belief in what is right make Gwen a very deserving winner of this award. DAR — Gwen Law, Joan Keough, Betty Sue Frey.
