HONORS The first section of the 1960 Cauldron recognizes the honors won by Downers students for academic and non-academic achieve- ments. The honors are varied, ranging from awards for excellence in dramatics or journalism to citizenship awards to recognition for outstanding performance both on the playing field and in the class- room. Besides the honors listed in this section, more than thirty Illinois State scholarships were awarded to seniors in the spring. Many science projects — winners from the local fair — received awards at the District and State science fairs. These and other honors could not be included because of an early publication dead- line.
