hi 1377, Downers (7rove Community High School was established. The student body was accommodated in a two room structure of dark red brick which is in use today as a part of Lincoln School, housing elementary pupils. In 1394, because of a shortage of space, the school was moved to the north side building which is now a part of Washington School. In 1913, two more rooms were added to the original Lincoln building and the high school student body of III was returned to that location. In 1923, the school was moved to the newly-erected buff brick building on Forest Avenue. At this time there were 350 students enrolled. In 1936, with a student body of 925, an addition to the west end of the first floor was erected which included 14 classrooms and an instrumental music room. Shortly after, in 1933, a new gymnasium and dressing rooms were erected at the west end of the building. In 1955, a two-story west addition was joined to the gymnasium and the original building. 'This housed a new library over the music room, with three classrooms and a vocal music room on the third floor. The total enroll- ment was then 1500. Today 2025 students and 91 faculty members of Downers drove Com- munity High School are accommodated in the remodeled Forest Avenue building and large Main Street addition completed in 1953, with classroom and administration space, a new boys' gymnasium, and a new auditorium.
