PRINCIPAL CLARENCE W. JOHNSON M.A.—Columbia University Principal Students and faculty alike pay tribute to Mr. Clarence Johnson for the uniformly high standards and progres- sive policies at DCHS. In the thirty-four years he has been associated with our schools, first as a teacher, and since 1931 as principal of the high school, he has established an enviable record as a capable and efficient school administrator. Mr. Johnson directs the high-school administrative staff, supervises the teaching staff, works closely with the department heads to maintain professional standards and an enriched curriculum; and yet, in spite of a heavy schedule, he always finds time to talk with students and teachers who seek his counsel or advice. Needless to say. the school and the community are proud of Mr. Johnson's active participation in state and national educational organizations and, at the same time, appreciate his generous service to civic community life. SUPERINTENDENT GLENN E. PICKREL M A—University of Nebraska Superintendent of Schools Superintendent of Schools Glenn E. Pickrel, in his two years in the community, has proved himself not only an able administrator, but also a man with a high degree of integrity. Prior to coming to Downers Grove, Mr. Pickrel was Superintendent of the West Side Community Schools, a suburban district of Omaha. Nebraska. He was active in many civic groups of Omaha, and he taught school admin- istration courses at the University of Omaha and at the University of Nebraska. A member of Phi Delta Kappa, the National Educa- tion Association, and the American Association of School Administrators, Mr. Pickrel has improved the curriculum in Downers Grove, added more accelerated classes, and promoted a successful referendum which improved the teachers' salary schedule. Kind and considerate, with a dry sense of humor, Mr. Pickrel has the ability to work in harmony with others and shows respect for the personal dignity of all. The Pickrel Family: Douglas. It is they who must co- ordinate all of the functions of the academic day and who are responsible for the counseling of students, the conducting of the educational testing program, and the acquainting of future students with DGHS. The administrative counselors arc an indispensable part of the educational system at DGHS and are a credit to the community as well as to the school. Wayne T.
