Enter to Learn Through the years many students have entered the halls of Dowagiac High in pursuit of an education. Each has, in his turn, gone into the world to raise, to some degree, the status of mankind. The 1959 Wahoo is dedicated to a Dowagiac alumnus who made ultimate contribution-he gave his life. lven Carl Kincheloe lClass of 191151 took an active interest in school, he was president of Student Council and a member of the Wahoo staff for two years. After graduating, he went to Purdue University where he attained degrees in aeronautical and mechanical engineering. He served well in Korea, where he became a double ace, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Silver Star and six other medals. More recently, he set an all-time altitude record, reaching a height of 126,000 feet. The record will be broken this year, due largely to his pioneering efforts. Kincheloe would have been the first man to fly the Bell X-15 into outer space, but on July 26, 1958, his F-104 Starfighter crashed near Edwards Air Force Base in California and Carl Kincheloe took the final step in fulfilling his motto: Ad Inex- porata-toward the unknown. . . . Leave to Serve
