WE THREE Out to Loquacious '52' With such commanding officers as Mr. Dexter Clough, Miss Lynnette Oelz, Miss Lois Patterson, Miss Olga Shewchuck, and Mr. Victor VVoodriclq at the helm of our sophomore class we can look ahead to a prosperous year. After a hard fought battle the Sopho- mores walked triumphantiy off the athletic field. The reason being the annual Fresh- man-Sophomore football rush, in which the class of fifty-two emerged victoriously with a score of sixty to forty. hlloing what comes naturally at the beginning of a school year we elect our class officers. VVith the highest rank is Kent Robinson, as president, next in line is Fred Ross who is vice-president. Taking the minutes is Annie Patzer, secretary, and keeper of the log book is lim Pulliu, our treasurer. Our Sophomore English Classes maneu- ver the following people to represent their class in the Student Council: Gerrie Iiiman, Susan Raiford, Delores Grindel, Don Hunt, Tom Downey, and Dale Bussler. o 26 We elected these people to see that the Sophomore class's opinion is voiced in the student council. Some of our more ambitious mates take part in the ship's extra curricular activities such as Ushers Club, VVahoo, Youth Coun- cil, Girls' Athletic Association, Hi-Sheet, Future Farmers of America, Future Home- makers of America, Basketball, Football, Band, and Spring Sports. Some Sopho- mores are leaders in these fields. Donning the orange and black hands of the Ushers Club are Lorraine Ruple, Betty Carter, livelyn Kulovitz, May Etter Allen, Lorraine Yetter, Donna Rose, Mildred Lat- islaw. Sandra Illiff, Bernard Chambers, Don Hunt, and Betty Bournay. Viforlting on the annual year book we find the following members of the Sopho- more Class: Lois Doerr, Betty Bournay, june Roberts, Lorraine Yetter, Annie Pat- zer, and Floyd Chandler. The Penny Carnival is a whale of 11 success this year ancl the freshmen tlonate their share of concessions. Larry Cox was the fortunate gob to rep- resent our class on the varsity basketball team. The reserve team who had a very successful trip this year. had the following Sophomores on it: Hill Gravit. lohn Daly. Dale liussler, Max Allen. Dan NVhite. Tom Downey. lim Pullin. Fred Ross. and Ken Schultz. ln the spring we liind many ol' our track stars are Sophomores, as well as having con- tributors on the Track, Tennis and Basket- ball teams. ln the artistic held ot our class is lune Roberts. liesides being the hard working art editor of Vliahoo, Iune made a mural in the 1tl't department of our ship which took her liour months. The mural was called School Life and was exhibited in Study Hall. To lttll money in our treasury each Soph- omore linglish Class took part in the Penny Carnival. Some had booths that sold cider, others sold candy and gum. Each Sopho- more English Class pledged S25 to the Sophomore treasury. making a grand total at the end of the year of 55100. Many ol' our English classes decided to take cruises of our own. The biggest of these field trips was the one Miss Patter- son's class took to the Mental Hospital in Kalamazoo and to the museums of Chicago.
