We admit there were a few tears shed: nevertheless, we re- gained our composure and enjoyed ourselves. Those who started were Wanda Andersen, Martha Argotsinger, Harvey Brasel, Nancy Brink, Leland Buck, Luan Chowning, Viola Mae Coleman, Bryce Cross, Helen Ann Dillavou, Lois Ann Dryden, Dennis Gibson, Gene Goeser, Clifford Gorman, Jim Griffin, Adella Hansen, Faye Hansen, Alma Higgings, Bill Houston, Dean Jenkins, Kenneth Kinny, Harold Kuhlman, Bob Lahr, Owen Leslie, Hans Malone, Alice McCoid, Leonard Mitchell, Ronald Mortenson, Wilmer Norris, Paul Paulsen, Shirley Penniman, Joan Riddle, Pat Riley, Glenda Smith, Loren Smith, Edward Segebart, .Tack Thomson, Jerome Thompson, Bruce Tillit, Edith Wingrove, Arlo McCutcheon, and Mary Mar shall. ln kindergarten, we labored with our ABC's and we learned to count. We all looked forward to our afternoon naps and story telling. We certainly enjoyed those rugs. We will always remember Miss Agnes' famous drawing of the birthday cake and the singing of Old Shoes, New Shoes. The dog house in first grade always seemed to be fascinating for some of the boys, and possibly a few girls. The fruit drink always tasted good at recess. This was the first year we had the use of desks. lt was quite a thrill to have books, paper and pencils right with us. We also started a tonette band which was a lot of fun. Second grade seemed to be a little harder- We began to learn to write and also to work more with numbers. We will always remember the plaques we made and also the Lifebuoy Health Charts that we kept. Third grade was one of our most memorable years. The girls built grass houses-- then the boys ran through and'wrecked them. A lot of our recesses were spent in playing Pomp Pomp Pull Away. The tale can now be told of some of our antics. Dennis, Bryce, Owen, and others left school early one day--by the use of the fire escape. They were never missed. When Pat was sent to the cloakroom she had a feast of crackers. Joan used to enjoy her noon lunches in the middle of the morning. Wanda brought her jewels to school and with the help of her classmates threw them on the floor. The boys crawled all over the room picking them up for us. We remember the day we let some bees out in the room after gettingthem at recess. We remember our Thanksgiving party, and march- ing to other rooms, also the marches that we took around the room, and don't forget the yardstick. The boys didn't get by with playing marbles during school time. The teacher had quite a collection. We did some studying by the way--we learned where we lived and something about ourselves by the use of geography. We also began to take science- We really thought we were grown up. Fourth, fifth, and sixth grades were also eventful years. In fourth grade, the teacher didn't show up one day. We proceeded to teach ourselves. Boy, did we learn a lot. We also had a flower shower for our teacher. The room really smelled nice after that. This was the year we really had a picnic. We went out to McCutcheon's timber and had a wiener roast, played games and other things. What a year!! ln fifth grade we began trying to master fractions. After a lot of patience from the teacher, we finally got it through our thick skulls. At least we think we did. This was the year we took part in the grade school operetta. Some of the girls even put on plays during the noon hour for special enter- tainment. Sixth grade, we began on decimals. What a time! We were taking penmanship at full swing. We are sure that our instructor thought we were writing with our noses be- cause of the ink on them. Some of the high school faculty still think we do. This is the year we had our pictures taken. At last we arrived at seventh grade. We were really grown up. We remember the numerous spelling Contests, the fruit rolls, and other activities that we participated in. At last!! We're in eighth grade. We were the Seniors of grade school and were 'anti- cipating entering high school. We had a Halloween party in the film room and we enjoyed a sleigh riding party. This was the year some of the boys played hookeyg consequently, they were asked to recopy the dictionary. Some of the boys and girls were taken in the cloakroom during school time. We also had an election of officers. We formed a girls' octet which usually ended with the giggles. Pat, Martha, and Faye Hansen went to the County Spelling Contest. Pat was intelligent enough to get second place. This ended our grade school activities. Our teachers were Miss Agnes, Miss Metcalf, Miss Howarth, Miss Wiggins, Miss Riddle, Mrs. Ballantine, Miss Turnland, Miss Armentrout, Miss Johnson, Miss Manion, and Miss Hoffman. Those who entered high school were Kay Ahart, Wanda Andersen, Martha Argotsinger, Charles Beerman, Clernet Berney, Robert Bramley, Rosetta Brown, Leland Buck, Don Crawford, Bryce Cross, Dolores Dryden, Dennis Gibson, Gene Goeser, James Griffin, Bill Houston, Lillian Kolln, Bob Lahr, Owen Leslie, Everett Price, Joan Riddle, Pat Riley, Roland Sharp, Glenda Smith, Jack Thomson, Duane Treft, and Donna Lahr. Our Freshman year started off with the annual initiation and a party given by the Seniors in the evening. Pat and Glenda were selected as cheerleaders and they were also selected for the sextets- The next year, our Sophomore year, we gave our first party, an April Fool's party. By the way, we got many compliments on our decorations. We can still see Pat and ? and Rosetta and ? in the halls. This was also the year we served the Junior-Senior Banquet. They dressed us as characters from the Gay Nineties. Some of us served at the Alumni Banquet, too. There were places on the basketball teams for a few of us- During our Junior year, we ordered our class rings. This was the year we gave our play, The Campbells Are Coming. lt was a big success in which we made the most money that had been made in the last five years. Some of the students also were in the one-act plays. Our banquet was a successg we used the theme of Showboat. We dressed the Sophomores as characters from the movie Showboat. We had a new experience when we went to Denison on Vocational Guidance Day. Our last year, our Senior year, was filled with many new and interesting events. With a lot of hurry and scurry we prepared for our Initiation Day. We had the Freshmen dress as circus characters and then prepared a party for them in the evening- We had our pictures taken on January 4th. After getting shot, we all ate dinner together- By the time we ordered our announcements, we began to realize that our school days were about to end. Baccalaureate was held Sunday, May 10th, and Commencement, May 14th. We had a feeling of sadness in leaving the school, but also a feeling of happiness in getting out of school. The ones that started together that are now graduating are Wanda Andersen, Martha Argotsinger, Leland Buck, Bryce Cross, Dennis Gibson, Gene Goeser, .Tim Griffin, Owen Leslie, Joan Riddle, Pat Riley, Glenda Smith, and .Tack Thomson. The members of the Faculty that puts up with us during our high school days were Mr- Elmore, Miss Hugron, Miss Patrick, Mrs. Ruby Smith, Mr. Hughes, Miss Thompson, Mrs- Walters, Mr. Harrington, Mr. Butterworth, Mr. Good, Mr. Ordal, Mr. Ploth, Mrs- Ploth, and Mr. Hanson. Kindergarten Class of 1953 Prophecy of the Class of '53 lt is now 1973: twenty years have passed since we last looked in on the graduation class of 1953. Since the class of '53 was scattered all over the world, it was rather hard to look in on them. But by the means of our speedy Flying Saucer, we were able to spend a few minutes with each of them and they told us of their successes and failures. Wanda Andersen has at last achieved her worldly aim. She is in Ring Number One as the Fat Lady in Ringling Brothers Circus. Erom all rumors, we hear that she is still chasing Arlen Petersen, but with all that excess weight she isn't as good at running as she used to be. Glenda Lee Smith, the ex-wife of Gaylin Sisson, is now out doing the town, looking for a badly-needed job. It seems as if their early marriage didn't work out so well. She has only one drawback that contributes to her inability at finding a job---that drawback is her six little red-headed children- .Tirn Griffin, better known as Mr. Atlas, is keeping his old school teacher's daughter in shape. After many requests for his diet, he let us in on his secret. He tells us that Gerber's Baby Food is the main stay in his diet. Kay Ahart, the poor girl, has never been as happy and carefree as she was in her school days. It seems as if there are too many twigs in her way. At last report, we hear she has joined the Waves and is hoping to find that sailor who once held her interest- If this doesn't satisfy her, however, Kay tells us that she can always go back to raising spiders- Pat Riley isn't doing as well as everyone expectedl She married Bill Baber but she cou1dn't leave all her old, and also new, flames alone. She has four children who are doing fine, but Pat has been having considerable trouble making one little boy leave a motor- cycle alone. Roland Sharp, we believe, has one of the best jobs of his entire class. He is working with Mannequin Models in New York City- His job---designing costumes- He has run onto a very familiar acquaintance recently--we were all very surprised to hear that this model is Joan Riddle. We are still puzzled as to what happened to Joan, her farming, and Arlo. Don North has a very important political job. He is Chief Mouse-Trap-Emptier for the Governor. He likes his job tremendously well and we hear he is receiving a very high salary. Martha Rose Argotsinger is filling a position which is very well suited to her. She is a schoolteacher- Martha has been at this little schoolhouse so long that the chalk dust has discolored her hair and some think that it has even discolored her mind. Jack Thomsen, the successful lad, is now Crawford County's sensational beauty opera- tor. He's in an old familiar spot, especially to the boys--the place once owned by Verla Clingenpeel. Lillian Kolln has made a great success of her nurses' training. She has now added to her list the discovery of a cure for the dreaded disease, brain fever, which many -of her classmates had during her high school yea s- Dolores Dryden, the one-time famous dancer, is now running a pawn shop at Providence, Rhode Island- Her main merchandise is watches. Whatever happened to that one you re- ceived during your Senior year, Dolores ? Ralph Waderich, who was one of the twigs in Kay Lou's future, is now a professional driver for .Toey Chitwood's Auto Daredevils. His chief aim in i -, which he hasn't yet achieved, is trying to run down Christmas trees- Owen Leslie is still working to develop his manly physiqueg his job, digging graves in the old town cemetery- We hear he isn't doing too well in the world because of his feel- ing of always being down under everyone else- Leland Buck, we hear, after his many years of peeling potatoes, has achieved the rank of Admiral in the United States Navy. Leland informs us that he is getting rather tired of being a Navy man though, and he says that as soon as he has received his discharge he will join the Marines- George Kelbl, the boy who, shall we say, disliked school, is now a college professor at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana. His knowledge of government, which he received in high school under Mr- Good, led him to this career. Dennis Gibson, the all-time ladies' man, has found that the women are interfering too much with his life. He has had to make a choice between his favorite hobby and women- We were very surprised that Dennis chose his hobby, which is spending his days at the library at Arion, Iowa, reading up on the latest of Einstein's theories- Bryce Cross, who is now known as the Reverend P. D- Cross, is doing great mission- ary work in Czechoslavakia. lt is rumored he is not doing so well because his mind keeps wandering back to his high school days, and nights- Donna Lahr has been on numerous television shows, we hear- Many people have seen her and say she is one of the best women wrestlers yet to appear before the screen- We are all wondering where she acquired this ability, it couldn't have been from slinging hash in Anderson's Restaurant, could it? ? Clemet Birney, a professional opera singer, is doing very well with his career- He will make his next performance at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. We have all been curious to know where Clemet achieved his great vocal ability. It must have been from the practice he had calling hogs down on the old farm. Ronald Book's life is all wrapped up in his band- He is directing a very well-known band which we have all heard of, Book's Bouncing and Bobbing Be-Bop Boys- Their next performance will be at Buck Grove, Iowa and they are expected to draw a very large crowd. Rosetta Brown isn't the dignified girl we used to know. -She has lost that touch from her manual labor on the farm of Duane Hard Incorporated. In case you are wondering what Incorporated stands for, it was added because of Rosetta's and Duane's numerous addi- tions to the family throughout the years- Gene Goeser was a hard man to find. We finally located him along the Nile River, counting the grains of sand. He does this very often and calls it his hobby- We think the reason for this is to get away from his dominating wife, Dolores Lambert. Well, now that you have seen these brilliant people and learned of their successes in this great world, we hope you will stop by in your Flying Saucer again soon!!! f Class of ' 5 3 We all will remember our Freshman year, When we were honored with a little fear, Of the newness of step and the hopes we held dear: But they were all forgotten when the end was near. Our Sophomore year held something new. This was a year with things to dog Basketball chances on the team for a few, And serving at the Junior-Senior Banquet, too. Our Junior year was the best of three, Our Junior play was something to see! The day our rings came We were filled with glee, And in planning the banquet we were busy as a bee. At last, at last we are Seniors now! Out of our schooldays we soon will bow. Upon those lucky Juniors this position we endow, Also our ability for class discussion! WOW! Our schooldays now are in the past, That distant goal we've reached at last. We'll put into action 'the plans we massed, As we, of tomorrow step out into this world so vast. Neither tells the other of the children at home, three in one household and two in the other. The youngsters, having heard of the big surprise and not feeling too good about it, plan to upset the matrimonial apple cart by acting their worst before their prospective step-parents. One will have fitsg another will talk baby talk: a third plays the role of a holy terror. Sammie becomes a kleptomaniac and worse, and Doris, having had an operation, will harp on that. What a mix-up and what fun in the telling. After almost two hours of side-splitting laughter, Agnes and Henry emerge victorious and the kids are ready to accept their new parents. Confusion and Delicious, the Negro handy man and maid, go along with the plan, but Gloomy Gus, Aunt Drue's loyal housekeeper, almost upsets the plan. After the rooms are all rented to an assorted group, in- cluding Peggy's and Ginger's boy friends, Aunt Drue returns unexpectedly.
