1st Girls State Champs! Clockwise from top left: Evelyn Salgado. Yolanda Santana and Jennifer Welch. Stacie Reidinger — running with the pack. The girls’ cross country team won the New Jersey Group 2 Section 2 state title with a winning attitude. After months of practice, the team finally made the sweat pay off. The practices varied. One day the team members ran a straight eight miles; the next day they ran intervals. The girls worked hard from beginning to end. Even though the spectators were few and far between, the girls entered each meet with confidence and their winning at- titude. With their steady improvement over the years and Mr. Schiffman as coach, the girls’ cross country became the first female team in Dover history to win a state title in any sport. Members of the championship squad were Trina Altman. Stephanie Williams, Yolanda Santana, Heather Welch, Stacie Reidinger, Michele Fredericks, Evelyn Salgado and Jennifer Welch. 10 Cross Country
