Hills 15-6 West Morris The 1985 Freshman football team had the best season in the past 8 years with a record of 8-1. The Tigers won some tough games including a victory over Mt. Olive that saw defensive back Howard Goldberry, injured on the first kick-off of the game. The resulting injury to his knee knocked him out for the rest of the season. The defense rose to the occasion though as they held Mt. Olive scoreless even though the Marauders had a first and goal from the four yard line. Two night games were scheduled at Hamilton field. Weather forced the cancellation of the second game but the first was a victory over Parsippany Hills, as the defense rallied behind sack specialist Dan Schainen. Dover’s chance for an undefeated season was ended in the fourth game of the season as the Tigers suffered a heart-breaking loss to arch-rival, Randolph. Scott Mack stopped a 2 point conversion try in the first half as the Tigers led 7-6, but a late touchdown in the second half gave the Rams the victory. Quarterback Glen Miller and running back Bill Saks had great years for the team and along with the rest of the team should add to Dover’s football program for many years to come.
