The Dover Tiger Football Program experienced its most successful season in several years. The Varsity, in posting a 6-2-1 record, fell only three points short of an undefeated season. The Junior Varsity captured the Iron Hills Conference-Hills Division crown with a 7-1 record. The Varsity opened its season under the lights at Hamilton Field with an impressive 21-0 whitewashing of the Delbarton Green Wave. In recording the shut-out, the Tigers displayed a tough defense and a potent running attack. The perenially tough Randolph Rams were the Tigers' next victim. In a come from behind victory, the Rams were convincingly defeated in a game that seethed with excitement. Traveling to Boonton, the Tigers were victorious again, with a 28-14 win against an improved Bomber squad. Disaster struck in the form of the mighty Knights from Morris Hills. In a game that will long be remembered, the Tigers moved the ball up and down the field with speed and power. An unsuccessful two point conversion was the deciding factor in the 14-13 heart- breaker. Fighting to regain momentum, the Tigers traveled to Mount Olive to take on the Marauders. With both teams playing stingy defense, time ran out on the Tigers. The game ended in 7-7 deadback. Then at West Orange Mountain, the extra point problem again showed its ugly face as Dover lost 14-12 to the Rams. The Tigers, struggling to relocate the road to victory, were pitted against the Hanover Park Hornets on Parent's Day. The Tigers were back on track with a 27-8 thrashing of the Hornets. Traveling to West Morris, the Tigers were faced with the ominous task of stopping one of the premier backs in the county. The Tigers did their job well and emerged decisively victorious 27-7. The season climaxed on Thanksgiving Day morning against arch-rival Roxbury. The Tigers demonstrated an aerial display scoring the winning touchdown on a 60 yard pin play. Final score — 20-13. The battle reflected the ups and down of the season, but again the character of the team emerged. The victory was a fitting end to a successful season for the Dover Tigers.
