Text from Pages 1 - 208 of the 1970 volume:

Life, viewed through different perspectives, takes on many meanings ... — Namor 2 Introduction Man, since his beginning, has found the need to communicate, to express his desires and emotions. Through gestures, a word, or a flickering expression he generates passion or detachment. Man's basic need to unfold the farthest depths of a profound soul to his fellow-men has inspired him to create lasting masterpieces. Yet the desire to reach out, to share with someone the burdens of uncertainty and to help lessen the pain of solitude is urgent and overwhelming. We need to feel close to someone and to know he understands. However, this need is often stifled or disregarded. The stress of life has become so intense that we must seriously reflect on the barrier of silence which has arisen and penetrate it. We must make the effort to understand ourselves and those around us. To eradicate ignorance, fear, and hatred, we must express ourselves and encourage others to cross the wide gulf of apathy. We need to communicate. We hope through the following pages to communicate to you all the joys and some of the sadness of the past year which we have experienced together. If you see one picture which might cause you to reminisce, we will have accomplished our purpose. We reach out to you ... 5 and we will laugh and cry out loud, and we will all join hands . . . Neither wealth nor splendor, but willing occupation gives happiness . . . —Jefferson 9 The flames flashed brilliantly all around and announced a preparation for the excitement at hand ... — Namor Fear, Desire, and Hope draw us ever towards that which is to come ... — Montaigne 14 For thy sake, tobacco, I would do anything but die . — Lamb Pa! The play selected for this year was “Bells Are Ringing . The leads were played by Nell Turner and Frank Dame-lio. As usual, it was a smashing success due to the hard work and talent put into the production on the part of the cast and backstage help and, of course, Mr. Daniels. “Bells Are Ringing” will long be remembered. 48 Frank Damelio, Nell Turner, Bruce Becker, Steve Cicclictti, ai.d D wid Neu. 49 Dover High School Band The band, under the able leadership of Mr. John Evans and Mr. John Vanderhoof, saw a very exciting year. They first played at the opening Army game at West Point as half-time entertainment. Then they gave an admirable performance at the Clifton Band Festival in October. They represented Dover High School exceptionally well in Delaware and set an example for the Delaware High School Band. A first for Dover High School and a great honor was their participation in the Inaugural Activities in Trenton as William Cahill became governor of New Jersey. The climax was the exchange concert in the spring with Monarch Park Secondary School in Canada. Once again the Dover High School Band has helped to further the reputation of Dover High School. Happiness is a new friend. — Schultz Exchange Student Miss Lucia Stutz, Luci, is our sixth foreign exchange student at Dover High School. Her native home is in Rosario, Argentina. She has entered into many of the activities in Dover, including the school play, and has been accepted as an integral part of our school. She has enlightened and brought enjoyment to all who know her. We wish her much happiness and good fortune in the future and hope she leaves Dover with fond memories. She will leave Dover High School with a lasting imprint on the minds of her fellow classmates. 156 Senior Advisory Board The Senior Advisory Board is composed of Mr. Robert Dobson, Mr. Robert Sutton, Mr. Rino Rastelli, Mr. John Middleton, Mr. Robert Verseput, Miss Helen Hil-lenbrand, Mr. Swen Gustafson, and Mrs. Betty Inglis. Kahlil Gibran I would like to express my appreciation to Mr. Lou Espositio and the Lorstan-Thomas Studios for their guidance in the production of this yearbook. I would especially like to thank Mrs. Betty Inglis without whose assistance and guidance much of the work would not have been completed. I would also like to thank Mr. Rino Rastelli for heading the business portion of the book and all the people who sold ads. I wish to thank four girls who were completely responsible for the tedious task of constructing a yearbook, Kathie Roman, Alice Miller, Louise Neu and Donna Haddock. My sincere and magnitudinal thanks go to these girls. My final thanks go to Kevin Sean Cashen who is responsible for the excellent photography included in this book.
