THE BAND The Dover High School marching and concert band enjoyed a very successful school year. The marching band provided spirited music for all football games, pep rallies, the Hallowe’en parade, Memorial Day parade, and various other school functions during the year. The concert band performs at the annual spring concert and for the commencement program. The student director is Ed Wacks. Peggy Martin is the president. Bands DANCE BAND The Dance Band known as the “Tiger Tones” has developed into a first rate high school dance band. Its function is to provide music for school dances and shows. 24

Color Guard The Color Guard always adds much color and serenity to the band and the show at football games. This year’s squad worked well together as a unit. The captain is Carol Francisco. Other members arc Barbara Nazzaro, and Karen Bar-wicke. Substitutes are Carol Lindale and Janice Kilgore. Drill Team The Drill Team is a new addition at football games and parades. This small but versatile group of seventeen girls performed most excellently throughout the year, adding much color and variety to the football games. Katherine Bald and Carole Hahn are the co-captains, both doing an excellent job of training this group. naiTTwirlers The Twirling Squad displayed ' exceptional talent and varied routines throughout the football season. This group was cap- tained by Frances Sakala who showed fine leadership ability. The Head Majorette, Valerie Halter, led the band for the past two years with outstanding showmanship and ability. 23

Choirs THE CHOIR President..........Gerald Foster Director....Mr. Waldemar G. Evert For the first time in the history’ of the DHS choral music department, the A and B choirs have been combined to form the largest concert choir since it was founded ten years ago. This year’s membership totals over 135 students. The choir strives to present the finest in music and rehearses daily during ninth period. Its Christmas program and spring concert have become known as two of the finest musical events in town. 5 t t '• § f i i » ; t '§ t i t f ' ; t s f C f « n ip J ■ ■ • 1 6 ' THE BEL CANTO CHORUS President..................Paul Wood Director.......Mr. Waldemar G. Evert The Bel Canto Chorus is the “Flying Chorus” of our school, going wherever music is desired and requested. It is the choicest group of singers from Dover High, selected by stiff try-outs. This year the group made traditional appearances at three Dover service clubs before Christmas; at the Market Street Mission in Morristown; and at Shongoum Hospital. It also took part in the Christmas program and Spring Concert, as well as the Christmas assembly for the student body. The membership is limited with a large number of students on the waiting list. Rehearsals are held before school in the morning twice weekly without school credit. 25
